Job description
Role overview
A growing engineering consultancy in Hamilton is looking to add people to its expanding team, with opportunities suited to both early-career water engineers and experienced civil designers. The team works in a collaborative, well-organised environment and delivers a steady flow of projects across 3 waters, land development, and infrastructure in Waikato and surrounding areas.
What the role involves
You will join a multidisciplinary group contributing to the planning, modelling, and design of water and civil infrastructure projects. The exact balance of work will depend on your background, ranging from technical delivery to project coordination and design leadership.
The position provides broad exposure to stormwater, wastewater, and potable water systems, along with civil design responsibilities such as subdivisions and infrastructure works.
Key duties
- Assist with or take the lead on 3 waters modelling and analysis.
- Produce design solutions for water, wastewater, and stormwater infrastructure.
- Support land development and civil design assignments, including earthworks, drainage, and roading.
- Prepare design documentation and coordinate outputs with project teams.
- Participate in client and project meetings.
- Work closely with engineers, planners, and surveyors to keep projects moving.
- Provide guidance to junior team members when operating at a more senior level.
Candidate profile
The employer is open to candidates at different stages of their career.
For junior to intermediate applicants, 2 to 4 years of exposure to 3 waters or civil infrastructure projects is preferred. Familiarity with Civil 3D or a similar design package is helpful, and a willingness to learn and develop technical capability is important.
For mid to senior-level candidates, the ideal background includes 5 or more years of experience in land development or infrastructure design. Strong ability in Civil 3D is expected, with 12d considered an advantage. Experience in delivering projects, coordinating design outputs, mentoring others, and maintaining technical quality will be highly valued.
All applicants should have a relevant civil engineering or design qualification, strong communication skills, and a cooperative working style. The role also requires someone who can work independently as well as contribute effectively within a team.
Why this opportunity stands out
- Join a consultancy with a healthy pipeline of work across Waikato.
- Gain experience across a wide variety of 3 waters and civil infrastructure projects.
- Be part of a supportive, practical team with accessible leadership.
- Enjoy a workplace that supports growth in either technical expertise or project delivery.
- Benefit from flexible working arrangements and established systems and processes.
- Receive a salary that is competitive and aligned with your experience.
Qualifications
A Washington Accord degree is required.
