About IdeaTek
IdeaTek is a Kansas-based broadband company that has spent more than 25 years building a fast-growing network of fiber infrastructure. The organization is known for an entrepreneurial mindset, rapid execution, and a long track record of expansion. Its mission is to deliver high-speed internet to communities that have traditionally been underserved, including rural areas that deserve the same level of connectivity as larger cities.
To support its next phase of growth, IdeaTek is seeking a strategic and detail-oriented VP of Accounting and Finance to own and strengthen the company’s financial foundation.
Role Overview
This executive position sits at the intersection of accounting leadership and corporate finance. The selected leader will oversee financial reporting, internal controls, capital tracking, grant compliance, and debt covenant management while partnering closely with senior leadership to guide growth and expansion decisions.
The role also carries significant people-leadership responsibility, including developing the finance organization, improving processes, and aligning accounting operations with the company’s long-term strategy.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with the VP of Strategy and the executive team to turn financial data into practical decisions that support growth, market expansion, and risk reduction.
- Coordinate with the Corporate Controller to align accounting operations, tax planning, and internal control design with forecasting and long-term planning.
- Lead, coach, and develop the accounting and finance teams while building a culture of accountability, learning, and performance.
- Improve and modernize financial systems and workflows so they can keep pace with rapid business growth.
- Own the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close cycles and ensure financial statements are accurate and compliant with US GAAP.
- Present financial results to the executive team, board, and lenders in a clear and reliable manner.
- Oversee fixed-asset accounting for telecommunications infrastructure, including depreciation, inventory handling, and field deployment tracking.
- Maintain disciplined control over capital spending and track federal and state broadband grants such as CPF, BEAD, and other infrastructure funding sources.
- Lead annual budgeting and build rolling forecasts that model cash flow, capital needs, and returns from new territory expansion.
- Manage treasury activities, working capital, debt covenants, and credit facilities to protect liquidity.
Required Qualifications
- At least 8 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting, including 3 or more years in a director or VP role.
- Strong command of US GAAP, advanced financial modeling, and enterprise ERP systems.
- Proven leadership approach suited to entrepreneurial, cross-functional, and fast-moving environments.
Preferred Background
- An active CPA license is strongly preferred.
- Experience in capital-intensive sectors such as telecommunications, broadband infrastructure, utilities, or heavy construction is a plus.
- Direct experience managing state or federal grants and the related reporting requirements will stand out.
- Exposure to equity structures, debt arrangements, or sophisticated credit facility management is beneficial.
Benefits and Perks
- Competitive compensation with performance-based bonus opportunities.
- 401(k) plan with company match.
- Medical coverage with several deductible options.
- Free direct primary care options.
- HSA and FSA plan availability.
- Subsidized gym membership.
- Flexible time off and accommodating work schedules.
- Paid parental leave.
- Casual office dress code.
- Healthy drinks and snacks available at the office.
- Complimentary high-speed home internet for employees within the service area.
- Individual strength assessments plus tuition and certification reimbursement.
Culture and Values
- Operate with transparency, reliability, and follow-through.
- Bring bold ideas and think with a long-term view.
- Stay resilient and adaptable when challenges arise.
- Believe in access to technology that helps people learn and grow.
- Build strong connections within teams and communities.
- Continuously look for better ways to innovate and improve.
