Position Overview
The Telemedicine Coordinator plays a critical role in managing virtual patient appointments from start to finish. This remote role involves orchestrating seamless video consultations by handling pre-visit patient communication, verifying registration and insurance, assisting throughout virtual check-in and check-out, preparing patient charts, overseeing virtual waiting areas, and launching telehealth sessions via Zoom or similar platforms. Although clinical hands-on activities like blood draws are not required, a solid understanding of clinical processes is helpful. The role requires strong communication, technological proficiency, patience, and problem-solving skills to resolve any virtual visit challenges efficiently. Collaboration with healthcare teams ensures high-quality virtual care delivery, accurate documentation, and timely follow-up scheduling, supporting a broad patient base with remote monitoring capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Initiate contact with patients before appointments to verify registration and insurance details.
- Organize and prepare patient charts and relevant health information to aid providers.
- Guide patients through virtual check-in and check-out procedures on the telehealth platform.
- Manage the virtual waiting room and start telemedicine sessions using Zoom or comparable tools.
- Provide technical support to patients during virtual visits, addressing any issues promptly.
- Ensure effective handoff of patients to healthcare providers with complete information.
- Arrange follow-up visits and coordinate referrals for additional care or specialists.
- Review and update medical records during patient interactions.
- Assist with simple clinical tasks like taking vitals and medication preparation as needed.
- Maintain compliance with clinical documentation standards and organizational guidelines.
- Engage in outreach activities to enhance patient engagement and care plan adherence.
- Manage clinical and administrative supplies to ensure readiness for virtual and onsite services.
Qualifications and Skills
- A minimum of one year experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably in primary care settings.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or related healthcare training program.
- Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant according to state law requirements.
- CPR/BLS certification valid at the start of employment.
- Phlebotomy experience is advantageous.
- Excellent communication abilities and strong troubleshooting skills.
- Comfort with remote work and teamwork in a virtual environment.
- Proficiency with telehealth platforms such as Zoom or similar software.
- Basic knowledge of clinical workflows and documentation practices.
