Job description
About the Role
The New York State Executive Chamber is looking for an energetic Video Producer/Director to join its Digital-Creative Team. This group shapes the administration’s digital voice and produces a large volume of written and visual content across major channels such as social media, YouTube, email, events, and web platforms. Reporting to the Director of Creative Strategy & Operations, this position will help translate the policies and messaging of the Office of Governor Kathy Hochul into compelling video and creative content.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can move quickly, think creatively, and capture the Governor’s work as it unfolds. You will work closely with teams across the Executive Chamber and state agencies to turn complex policy topics into content that is clear, engaging, and accessible to New Yorkers.
The role may require travel across the state for shoots and availability outside standard working hours, including evenings and weekends.
Core Responsibilities
- Generate and shape video ideas with the team, turning concepts into executable creative plans.
- Oversee the production workflow and help guide post-production across multiple video projects.
- Prepare for shoots and direct crew and talent on set, including scripting, brief creation, and storyboarding for both studio and field productions.
- Review edits and give clear direction to video editors for original productions and footage-based edits.
- Capture docu-style social video when needed using a smartphone rig or other camera setup, depending on experience and comfort.
- Keep up with trends in social media, digital video, news, government policy, and culture to spot fresh creative opportunities.
- Help manage creative operations so video, graphic assets, and other materials stay organized, properly staffed, and on schedule.
- Assist in assigning video and digital staffing for shoots and events held throughout the state.
- Support signage and event creative work with Comms and Design, including visual direction, copy, brand consistency, and approvals.
- Take on other duties as required.
Candidate Profile
The ideal applicant will bring 5–7+ years of video production experience, ideally in a fast-moving media, political, government, advocacy, or similarly demanding environment. Strong scriptwriting and communications skills are essential, especially for digital video.
You should be comfortable directing and supporting a high-profile principal such as an elected official, executive, or other public-facing talent during shoots and events. Excellent organization, sharp attention to detail, and the ability to juggle multiple urgent priorities are important for success in this position.
Applicants should be able to share a portfolio of recent creative work and have basic familiarity with tools such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Premiere Pro, or similar design and video editing software.
This role also requires willingness to travel statewide and work on-call shifts during nights and weekends.
