Role Overview

The Atlantic is recruiting a producer for their Podcasts team to enhance their expanding video podcast projects. This role demands a candidate deeply curious and familiar with humanities, history, intellectual discourse, and general news. Key functions involve video editing with Adobe Premiere under tight deadlines, assisting with guest bookings, research, show preparation, and recording logistics. Collaboration with the senior producer, hosts, fellow producers, audio engineers, and various newsroom teams is essential. This position requires flexibility to work nights, early mornings, and weekends occasionally.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Edit video podcast episodes using Adobe Premiere.
  • Collaborate with hosts and editors to uphold editorial quality.
  • Assist senior producers in all stages of production including pre-production and post-production.
  • Book and research guests and topics.
  • Manage episode cuts and publish final content.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams including legal, art, audience, copy desk, story editors, and fact-checkers to guarantee superior production standards.
  • Support senior producer in booking recording sessions and oversee lighting, audio, and camera setups for smooth recordings.
  • Enhance video outputs by integrating graphics, transitions, and other visual effects.
  • Maintain consistent audio and visual quality across episodes.
  • Work alongside the audience team to generate promotional clips for social media.
  • Handle uploading to relevant video and audio platforms.

Candidate Qualifications

  • Demonstrable prior experience in video production and editing, ideally in podcasting or journalism contexts.
  • Skilled with video editing and recording software such as Riverside, Adobe Premiere Pro, or Final Cut Pro.
  • Basic knowledge of lighting, audio, and camera operation to achieve high-quality video production.
  • Experience with remote recording processes.
  • Strong editorial judgment coupled with excellent communication and teamwork capabilities.
  • History of delivering quality work within tight deadlines and creatively solving editorial challenges.
  • Familiarity with YouTube and podcast distribution channels.
  • Experience in motion graphics and animation is desirable.

Additional Details and Terms

This Washington, D.C.-based position offers a salary between $85,000 and $100,000 annually. The role is part of a union (Guild) position.
