Job description
Role overview
The Vice President reports to the President and steps into the President’s responsibilities when required. This position provides day-to-day leadership across all campus locations and staff, helping ensure that college operations remain aligned with Tennessee Board of Regents policies, as well as applicable state and federal rules.
Key duties
- Work with the President to continuously assess, refine, implement, and monitor operational goals and objectives.
- Lead planning, budgeting, staffing, and policy development efforts.
- Guide, train, and motivate assigned employees so their strengths support the college’s growth and changing needs.
- Provide oversight for all departments within the college.
- Act as the responsible officer for affirmative action, as well as faculty and staff recruitment and retention planning.
- Ensure adherence to TBR, state, federal, and accrediting agency requirements.
- Complete annual evaluations for faculty and staff.
- Oversee orientation programs for newly hired faculty and staff.
- Prepare, communicate, and report on strategic plans and initiatives.
- Develop and assess the college’s risk management planning.
- Direct safety and security policies and procedures.
- Oversee curriculum review and development processes.
- Support the President with master planning activities.
- Assist with grant applications and award management.
- Help report the institution’s status to the Institutional Advisory Board.
- Create and share professional development opportunities for faculty and staff.
- Oversee departmental budget preparation and monitoring.
- Supervise facilities and maintenance personnel and manage physical facilities projects.
- Support the Coordinators of Nursing and Allied Health, Student Services, and Correctional Programs.
- Oversee procurement, academic, and other college contracts.
- Provide oversight for annual records retention reporting.
- Lead annual equipment inventory activities and disposal of surplus property.
- Assist Student Services leadership and/or the President with disciplinary matters.
- Participate in committees and boards as assigned.
- Serve as the Title VI and Title IX Coordinator, including compliance oversight and complaint investigations.
- Act as the COE liaison for Council on Occupational Education accreditation compliance.
- Work outside normal hours for scheduled school events and travel to meetings, including overnight travel when necessary.
Qualifications
Minimum requirements include a master’s degree from an accredited college or university, five years of work experience in post-secondary career and technical education, and three years of supervisory experience in a technical education environment.
Preferred background
Preference may be given to candidates with seven years of organizational management experience that includes administrative-level work in higher education. Additional preferred experience includes familiarity with Council on Occupational Education accreditation standards, Federal Student Aid programs, TN Promise, TN Reconnect, equipment procurement and contract bidding, and facilities management.
Knowledge, skills, and abilities
The role calls for strong decision-making skills related to budgets, personnel, and programs in an educational setting, along with leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills. Candidates should also be comfortable using computers, network systems, MS Office tools, and student information systems such as Banner. The position requires sound judgment, clear and persuasive communication, strong analytical ability, the capability to direct others, and competence in administration, technical writing, and project management.
