Role overview

This senior leadership position is responsible for directing the performance, reliability, safety, and financial results of a broad renewable energy portfolio. The scope includes solar farms, wind farms, battery energy storage systems, hydroelectric assets, and other clean energy infrastructure. The role supports the company’s expansion plans while helping ensure high output, strong asset availability, regulatory adherence, and sustainable operations.

Leadership and operational strategy

  • Direct multi-site renewable energy operations across regions and business units.
  • Create and roll out operating strategies that improve asset performance and consistency.
  • Set standards, procedures, and best practices for day-to-day operations.
  • Drive ongoing improvement programs that raise efficiency and execution quality.
  • Keep operational priorities aligned with sustainability and decarbonization goals.

Asset performance and reporting

  • Work to maximize generation output and equipment availability across the portfolio.
  • Track operational KPIs and use them to guide performance improvements.
  • Review trends, diagnose underperformance, and identify optimization opportunities.
  • Lead corrective actions that reduce losses and increase operating efficiency.
  • Monitor downtime drivers and implement measures to improve reliability.

Solar, wind, and storage operations

  • Oversee utility-scale solar PV facilities, including performance and efficiency management.
  • Optimize inverter, tracker, and electrical system performance for solar assets.
  • Manage onshore and offshore wind operations with a focus on availability and reliability.
  • Coordinate major component replacements and maintenance programs for wind farms.
  • Supervise battery storage operations, including charging/discharging strategy and lifecycle management.
  • Support grid stabilization services and efforts to improve storage profitability.

Maintenance, reliability, and compliance

  • Lead preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance programs.
  • Build and apply reliability strategies to extend equipment life and improve uptime.
  • Plan and oversee outages, inspections, and maintenance execution.
  • Champion a safety-first culture across all sites and teams.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, FERC, NERC, and applicable local rules.
  • Manage environmental responsibilities, operational audits, emergency response, and risk controls.

Finance, technology, and grid coordination

  • Manage operating and maintenance budgets with a focus on cost discipline and profitability.
  • Prepare annual operating forecasts and support capital investment decisions.
  • Use SCADA, EMS, and asset performance systems to improve visibility and control.
  • Support predictive analytics, AI-enabled monitoring, automation, and remote operations.
  • Coordinate with utilities, grid operators, and transmission organizations.
  • Support wholesale market participation, dispatch optimization, curtailment management, and congestion response.

Team leadership and growth

  • Lead operations, engineering, maintenance, and field service teams across the business.
  • Build succession plans, strengthen retention, and improve team engagement.
  • Support training and technical development for operational staff.
  • Contribute to acquisitions, integration of new assets, commissioning, and long-term growth planning.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies and support broader corporate energy-transition objectives.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Renewable Energy, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related subject is required. An MBA or master’s degree is preferred.

The position typically calls for 15 to 20+ years of experience in renewable energy, power generation, utility operations, or energy infrastructure, along with substantial leadership responsibility for utility-scale renewable assets and multi-site operations. A strong working knowledge of solar, wind, battery storage, and grid operations is expected.
