About SmithRx

SmithRx is a rapidly expanding venture-backed Health-Tech company committed to transforming the costly and inefficient Pharmacy Benefit Management (PBM) industry. Since 2016, we have on-boarded hundreds of thousands of members through a next-generation drug acquisition platform that leverages advanced technology, innovative cost-saving tools, and excellent customer service. Our company culture is mission-driven and collaborative, focusing on integrity, courage, and teamwork to revolutionize the U.S healthcare system.

Role Overview

The Vice President of Pharmacy Networks is an essential executive role responsible for the strategic direction, contracting, and comprehensive management of SmithRx’s national pharmacy network. This position leads negotiations and maintains relationships with retail pharmacy chains, independent pharmacies, Pharmacy Services Administration Organizations (PSAOs), specialty pharmacies, and mail-order facilities. The incumbent ensures network alignment with our transparent, pass-through pricing approach while maintaining extensive coverage, quality, and cost-efficiency for our clients and members. This role also oversees teams focusing on network development, compliance, credentialing, and performance enhancement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement the overall strategy for SmithRx’s national and custom pharmacy networks aligned with transparent business principles and client requirements.
  • Lead complex contract negotiations with major retail chains, PSAOs, specialty pharmacies, and mail-order partners to secure competitive reimbursement rates and favorable terms without spread pricing.
  • Develop innovative network initiatives such as high-performance or narrow networks and direct-to-consumer delivery models to reduce drug costs and improve member access.
  • Monitor network performance continuously, ensuring adherence to service level agreements, contractual obligations, quality standards, and accurate pricing.
  • Manage credentialing and re-credentialing processes to ensure compliance with federal, state, and company regulations.
  • Oversee pharmacy audit activities to uphold network integrity, minimize fraud, waste, and abuse (FWA), and ensure effective audit recoveries.
  • Implement policies and procedures required to meet Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) oversight regulations.
  • Collaborate internally with Sales, Customer Success, Clinical Strategy, Pricing/Underwriting, and Product teams to ensure accurate representation and successful integration of network capabilities.
  • Partner with data and analytics teams to track network profitability, usage patterns, and cost models for financial optimization.
  • Recruit, mentor, and expand a high-performing team of network managers, contracting specialists, and analysts fostering a culture of accountability, integrity, and courage.

Candidate Profile

  • Over 12 years of progressive leadership experience in pharmacy network management, pharmacy contracting, or PBM operations.
  • Experience with multiple lines of business including Commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, and Exchange.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the PBM environment, pharmacy reimbursement methodologies (such as AWP, MAC, NADAC), and differences between traditional and pass-through/transparent PBMs.
  • Proven expertise in negotiating high-value contracts with national pharmacy chains and PSAOs.
  • Strong leadership capabilities in managing and mentoring cross-functional, often remote teams within fast-growing organizations.
  • Excellent financial and analytical skills to understand complex pricing and convert data into strategic network decisions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or related discipline; PharmD or advanced degrees (MBA, MHA) preferred.

Compensation and Benefits

  • Competitive base salary ranging from $238,000 to $280,000 depending on location, role level, and qualifications.
  • Eligibility for bonuses, commissions, or equity incentives.
  • Comprehensive wellness benefits including medical, pharmacy, dental, vision, and life/AD&D insurance.
  • Flexible spending accounts and retirement savings via 401(k) plans.
  • Short-term and long-term disability coverage.
  • Paid time off including discretionary PTO, company holidays, and parental leave.
  • Commuter benefits, employee assistance programs, wellness perks, professional development, and training opportunities.
