Role Overview

The Vice President - Finance will steer the financial direction of a construction contracting business, covering strategy, planning, reporting, taxation, and commercial finance. This position calls for deep expertise in project-based accounting, contract administration, cash flow improvement, and financial risk control, particularly within large-scale data center construction work.

Preferred Candidate Profile

  • Professional qualifications such as CPA, CA, ACCA, CMA, or an MBA in Finance are preferred.
  • Overall finance experience of 15 to 20+ years is required.
  • At least 5 to 10 years should be in a senior finance leadership position within construction, EPC, engineering, or contracting.

Technical Skills

  • Financial modeling and analytical review.
  • Strong budgeting and forecasting capability.
  • Construction project cost accounting.
  • Recognition of contract revenue.
  • Treasury operations and cash management.
  • Tax planning and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with ERP platforms such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar systems.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel use and financial reporting tools.

Key Responsibilities

  • Set and drive the company’s financial strategy in line with overall business goals.
  • Own annual budgeting, forecasting, and multi-year financial planning.
  • Provide actionable financial input to executive leadership for major decisions.
  • Build and maintain strong governance practices and internal controls.
  • Oversee project budgets, cost controls, and profitability analysis.
  • Track project cash flow, cost-to-complete estimates, and earned value reporting.
  • Assess financial performance of projects and highlight risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure correct accounting for contract revenue, variations, claims, retention, and work in progress.
  • Review financing needs and commercial exposures associated with projects.
  • Work closely with project teams to strengthen margins and accelerate collections.
  • Manage liquidity and working capital across multiple active projects.
  • Improve cash flow projections and funding plans.
  • Negotiate banking arrangements, project funding, and guarantee structures.
  • Handle letters of credit, performance bonds, advance payment guarantees, and insurance-related requirements.
  • Ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements are delivered on time.
  • Prepare management reporting packs and board-level presentations.
  • Track core performance indicators including project profitability, gross margin, cash conversion, working capital, equipment utilization, and ROCE.
  • Identify financial and commercial exposures tied to projects.
  • Introduce mitigation measures to reduce risk.
  • Monitor exposure arising from claims, disputes, and contract changes.
  • Make sure suitable insurance coverage is in place.
  • Lead teams across finance, accounting, treasury, tax, and commercial finance.
  • Coach finance managers and support succession planning.
  • Promote ownership, discipline, and continuous improvement within the team.
