Job description
Role Overview
This position leads restaurant, bar/lounge, and room service operations where applicable. The role focuses on smooth daily service, support for menu planning, high sanitation standards, and hands-on assistance to servers and hosts during busy meal periods. A key part of the job is to strengthen guest and employee satisfaction while improving the department’s financial results. The role also includes identifying training needs and putting development plans into action.
Key Duties
The manager oversees day-to-day outlet activity, directs team members, and is expected to understand front-line duties well enough to step in when needed. The role includes checking staffing levels, maintaining service and hygiene standards, supporting meal-period operations, and ensuring that operational targets and guest expectations are met.
- Direct and supervise daily operations across restaurants, bars/lounge, and room service as applicable.
- Support menu planning and maintain strong food service and sanitation standards.
- Work alongside servers and hosts during peak service windows.
- Review staffing to balance guest service, operational needs, and financial goals.
- Lead, coach, and motivate team members through clear communication and example-setting.
- Promote trust, teamwork, accountability, and strong work ethics within the department.
- Set goals, organize priorities, and maintain employee productivity.
- Ensure compliance with food and beverage policies, procedures, standards, and applicable laws.
- Train staff on food handling, sanitation, and local liquor regulations.
- Maintain open communication and collaborative working relationships across the team.
- Monitor alcohol service to ensure it follows local legal requirements.
- Handle guest concerns, recover service issues, and improve satisfaction levels.
- Collect guest feedback and use it to drive service improvements.
- Manage service flow from guest arrival to departure, including greetings, order speed, special requests, billing, and return invitations.
- Set performance expectations, monitor progress, and support employee development and training.
- Gather employee feedback, address concerns, and support retention and recognition efforts.
- Share information clearly with supervisors, peers, and team members through verbal and written communication.
- Analyze situations, evaluate outcomes, and choose effective solutions to problems.
- Oversee purchasing and invoice payment responsibilities for the department.
- Take charge of shift operations when the Assistant Restaurant Manager is unavailable.
Experience and Education
Candidates should meet one of the following profiles:
- High school diploma or GED, along with 4 years of experience in food and beverage, culinary, or a related professional setting.
- Or a 2-year degree from an accredited institution in Food Service Management, Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related field, plus 2 years of experience in food and beverage, culinary, or a related professional area.
