Job description

About the Role

Columbia Lake Partners, a specialist European venture debt fund based in Covent Garden, London, is seeking a Venture Debt Investment Analyst. The fund focuses on investing structured growth capital into high-growth technology companies with an emphasis on downside protection, credit quality, and sound commercial judgment. This position is primarily office-based with two remote Fridays per month, working hours from 9am to 6pm.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed financial models for both prospective investment opportunities and existing portfolio companies.
  • Evaluate factors such as cash flow stability, liquidity runway, unit economics, revenue authenticity, customer churn, and margin sustainability.
  • Perform downside and sensitivity analyses to assess potential risks.
  • Identify key credit risks and articulate mitigation strategies.
  • Assist in underwriting new investments through comprehensive financial and commercial evaluation.
  • Prepare investment committee materials and contribute to discussions regarding deal structure, covenants, security arrangements, and risk management.
  • Monitor financial reports from portfolio companies for early warning signs and emerging issues.
  • Maintain and update internal reporting systems and participate in quarterly portfolio reviews.
  • Gain deep insight into the European venture capital ecosystem, track relevant sectors, and recognize business and financing patterns.

Candidate Profile

Applicants with 18 months to 3 years experience in analytical finance backgrounds such as investment banking, credit analysis, venture or growth investing, transaction services, consulting, or ACA qualifications are encouraged to apply. More important than exact tenure is the candidate’s analytical capability, sound judgment, and potential. UK work authorization is required.

Key skills include:

  • Strong financial modelling abilities with ability to create transparent, auditable models from limited data.
  • Understanding of primary revenue growth drivers, cash burn rates, liquidity, and runway.
  • Proficiency in assessing downside risk and formulating conditions under which lending would be viable.
  • Ability to translate complex financial analysis into clear investment recommendations.
  • Familiarity with capital structures, debt instruments, and covenant mechanics.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills tailored to investment audiences.
  • Capability to justify assumptions under scrutiny and maintain openness about uncertainties.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines efficiently while focusing on broader commercial implications.
  • Enthusiasm for technology businesses and venture debt as an investment domain.

Success Factors

Success at Columbia Lake Partners depends on embodying the organization’s values of collaboration, curiosity, and transparency. Ideal candidates enjoy understanding business operations and growth cycles, focus on downside risk and credit integrity, take detailed ownership, manage priorities effectively in a dynamic investment setting, seek feedback, communicate clearly, and thrive in a close-knit team environment.

Compensation and Benefits

The company provides a competitive salary package alongside benefits that support employee well-being, family life, and activities outside work.
