Uzbek/Russian Linguist CAT II

Role overview

The organization is looking for experienced linguists to support ongoing and emerging U.S. mission requirements through interpretation, transcription, and translation work. The position is based in the Doha metropolitan area and involves handling language support in operational settings.

Key duties

• Deliver accurate consecutive interpretation, transcription, and translation between Uzbek, Russian, and English.
• Convert spoken and written material that includes idioms, informal speech, and slang across English, Uzbek, and Russian.
• Be prepared to work and travel in demanding, austere environments.
• Explain cultural and ethnic context that may affect the meaning of statements, conversations, situations, and documents.
• Review, research, and interpret foreign-language documents with care and accuracy.
• Handle additional duties as assigned.

Language and professional requirements

• Strong speaking and writing ability in Uzbek, Russian, and English, with ILR Level 3/3 proficiency required; native-level fluency is preferred.
• Deep understanding of regional culture, with prior experience in the area preferred and native familiarity an advantage.
• Direct experience translating and interpreting from Uzbek and Russian into English.
• Ability to understand standard speech and vocabulary with minimal need for rephrasing or clarification.
• Good awareness of local customs and the ability to work effectively among the local population.
• U.S. citizenship is required.
• Secret clearance is required.

Additional conditions

• The selected candidate must hold, or be eligible to obtain, the required Personnel Security Clearance (PSC).
• A medical fitness evaluation is mandatory, including medical and dental examinations, and the candidate must meet the required immunization standards for the deployment area or be willing to receive them before deployment.
• Applicants must have enough unaided hearing to work safely, hear alarms, and follow instructions without visual cues; if this is not met, SPRINT or equivalent testing plus an approved waiver under CENTCOM MOD 17, Section 15, TAB A is required.
• The role demands the ability to handle stressful situations and tight deadlines.
• Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds without assistance.
• No medical restrictions should prevent job performance or the use of personal protective equipment.
• Candidate must be physically able to work in extreme temperatures, low humidity, rain, blowing sand, and dust.
• Work may include irregular shifts, extended hours, nights, weekends, and holidays.
• All lifting and material-handling activities must follow proper procedures and safe practices.
• Must be able to stand, stoop, crawl, and climb for extended periods using proper techniques and PPE, without assistance.
