Job description
About TreeStock
TreeStock is an innovative forest technology startup located in Sheffield, UK, dedicated to transforming forest management through cutting-edge technology. We harness UAV-acquired data alongside machine learning techniques to create detailed digital models of individual trees at scale, enabling land managers, ecologists, and foresters to make more accurate decisions without relying on guesswork. Our mission is to deploy state-of-the-art technology that truly supports on-the-ground users, facilitating healthier, sustainably managed forests and providing transparent insights into environmental impacts. The dynamic environment and strong purpose-driven culture make TreeStock a rewarding place to work.
Role Overview
We are seeking a UI/UX Designer to join our Sheffield team in a hybrid working capacity, with the flexibility to work fully from home or the office as preferred. This role involves owning the user experience design of our forest data platform, ensuring it is intuitive and effective for professionals needing to convert raw data into confident, actionable insights.
You will collaborate closely with a senior product designer, but you will take the initiative and lead your projects end-to-end, contributing your creative vision and personal imprint rather than simply executing predefined instructions.
Daily responsibilities include engaging with real users to understand workflows, developing wireframes and detailed mockups, iterating prototypes based on feedback and analytics, managing and evolving the design system, ensuring visual uniformity across the platform, and working hand-in-hand with front-end developers to align implementation with design.
The culture emphasizes output and quality over rigid hours; while not a strict 9-to-5 environment, it promotes flexibility in work location and schedule.
Qualifications and Skills
- At least two years of professional UX/UI design experience.
- Proficiency with modern design tools such as Figma and Adobe Creative Suite or equivalents.
- Ability to work from Sheffield office with hybrid work flexibility.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills to effectively articulate design choices.
Preferred Attributes
- Experience in project management.
- Background in designing geospatial products.
- Familiarity with front-end technologies including HTML, CSS, and basic JavaScript to facilitate teamwork with engineers.
- Knowledge of responsive design, design systems, and accessibility standards such as WCAG.
- Strong interest in environmental or geospatial technology themes.
- Enthusiasm for occasionally swapping desk work for outdoor activities such as operating drones (optional).
