Role overview
The Utility Locator will carry out field work on subsurface utility investigation assignments, partnering with survey and project teams to produce accurate and dependable results.
Key responsibilities
- Find, identify and physically mark underground utilities in line with Utility Mapping colour code standards and the instructions provided for each work area.
- Use locating tools such as handheld pipe and cable locators and ground penetrating radar to support utility detection.
- Gather, document and organise utility information so it aligns with project needs.
- Read and interpret existing utility plans as well as GPR survey outputs.
- Oversee project flow and job allocation, including preparing BYDA details, field notes and sketches.
- Support and train trainee utility locators.
Experience and technical capabilities
- Hands-on experience conducting utility surveys with GPR systems, EMF detectors and survey equipment.
- Exposure to concrete scanning work.
- Comfortable using remote access tools and digital devices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
Key requirements
- Formal industry qualifications in utility locating, such as CertLoc Certified Locator or NULCA certification.
- Construction Industry Induction card.
- Current driver licence.
- National Police Check.
- Working with Children Card is preferred.
- First Aid Certificate is preferred.
