Job description
About Zoic Labs
Zoic Labs is a visualization and technology company working where data, storytelling, design, and emerging tech overlap. Founded in 2002, the team has created software and virtual production tools for Zoic Studios, a multi-platform storytelling company known for advanced computer graphics across film, television, gaming, and VR/AR. In addition to proprietary products and platforms, Zoic Labs provides UI/UX design, agile software development, research and development, and consulting for private sector clients, plus the U.S. Department of Defense and the Intelligence Community.
Why You May Enjoy Working Here
- The company is independently owned and run, with strong emphasis on serving users, clients, and employees well.
- The team values curiosity and keeps up with evolving tools and methods.
- Work-life balance is respected, even in a fast-moving industry.
- The workplace includes people from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences.
Role Overview
Zoic Labs is looking for a UI/UX Designer to shape the visual direction of applications across web, desktop, AR, VR, and app experiences. This is a highly creative role focused on developing early concepts and interface designs for future products. You will partner with engineering teams and clients or end users to balance strong usability with compelling design. The assignment is project-based, with a planned start in June 2026 and an estimated duration of 6 months.
Key Responsibilities
The selected designer will create polished, user-focused interfaces for a range of clients and help ensure the best possible experience on the company’s platforms. The role involves close coordination with leadership, product managers, engineers, and fellow designers. You will turn rough wireframes into refined, high-fidelity final visuals, produce strong UI/UX concepts, prototypes, and supporting design assets, and use user research and usability testing to uncover issues and improve the experience.
Skills and Tools
Strong enthusiasm for UI and UX work is important, along with the ability to explain design decisions clearly. A solid grasp of visual hierarchy, layout, and usability principles is needed. The role also calls for experience with Adobe XD, Illustrator, Photoshop, Zeplin, and Google Slides.
Preferred, Not Mandatory
Experience with After Effects, Figma, agency work, or marketing-related projects is considered a plus but is not required.
Other Requirements
Applicants should have an updated portfolio showing UI/UX work for digital products. You should be self-driven, comfortable working both independently and with a team, and familiar with information architecture. Experience using Jira is also expected.
Additional Information
Remote work is available anywhere within the United States, while the company itself is based in Los Angeles. Relocation expenses are not covered. This job posting outlines the main requirements only and may not include every duty; additional responsibilities can be assigned as needed. Because of the number of applications received, only candidates selected for interviews will be contacted.
Security Clearance and Eligibility
A current DoD clearance is not required to apply, but you may need to obtain a DoD clearance or government customer access within a reasonable time after the offer is made, and you must be able to maintain the required clearance. U.S. citizenship is required.
Compensation
The expected pay range is $40 to $50 per hour, depending on experience and other factors such as qualifications, education, certifications, licenses, and, when relevant, location.
