Role overview

Canopius is seeking an experienced Power & Renewables Underwriter to join its APAC Natural Resources team in a key role focused on profitable growth. The position centres on underwriting both new and renewal business across a portfolio of APAC Power & Renewables risks, covering onshore conventional power as well as onshore renewable energy.

This portfolio sits within a broader Natural Resources platform that spans the full value chain, including Power & Renewables, Downstream, Midstream & Upstream, and Mining & Heavy Industries.

Responsibilities

  • Build and expand the Power & Renewable Energy proposition across APAC and MENA in line with the Global/Regional Natural Resources SBF Management Plan.
  • Partner closely with the London team and operate within underwriting guidelines and the stated risk appetite.
  • Assess insurance exposures against the business plan and individual underwriting authority to support commercial objectives.
  • Develop strong working relationships with clients, brokers, and internal colleagues to strengthen influence and help advance business priorities.
  • Create and support strategic partnerships that align with the business plan and contribute to company goals.
  • Follow the insurance strategy carefully to limit risk and deliver against business plan targets.
  • Contribute actively to the development of team strategy, technical knowledge, and best practices.
  • Represent the department, division, and company positively to help reinforce brand value and market presence.
  • Maintain compliance with legal and regulatory requirements at all times.
  • Apply underwriting rules, instructions, and best practices to improve efficiency and manage risk.
  • Stay current on market trends and cycles to work effectively in changing conditions.
  • Support the growth and development of team members.

Requirements

  • Background in underwriting or broking within Power or Renewables, plus familiarity with the Singapore insurance market and its commercial dynamics.
  • Ability to support long-term business success through planning, organisation, and development initiatives.
  • Confident communicator who can work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.
  • Strong command of MS Office tools, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Active participation in the APAC market is considered essential.
  • Experience with Lloyd’s and the London market would be beneficial.
  • Well-developed IT ability, literacy, numeracy, analytical capability, and negotiation skills.
  • Capability to build relationships, travel when needed, and support marketing activity.
  • Comfortable working under pressure while meeting deadlines reliably.
  • Self-starter who can take initiative and make decisions.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing business needs.
