Job Summary
This role involves crafting and producing daily newscasts in collaboration with the Executive Producer. The position requires planning story selection, writing scripts, managing broadcast content, and ensuring the smooth execution of live news programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with the Executive Producer to design and organize the daily newscast, deciding on story inclusion, length, form, and sequencing based on management guidelines.
- Create, revise, and finalize newscast scripts and related content, preparing for possible contingencies in the broadcast.
- Ensure all elements like scripts, graphics, video content, and timing are completed before airing, entering necessary data into newsroom systems.
- Notify relevant team members promptly about any changes, including breaking news and live shots.
- Write and publish news stories on company websites and social media platforms, updating online content regularly.
- Occasionally shoot and edit video segments as needed for broadcasts.
- Maintain constant communication with reporters, anchors, photographers, and technical staff to synchronize newscast operations.
- Manage and respond effectively during breaking news and unexpected changes, communicating clearly with all involved parties.
- Write clear, engaging, and accurate stories that simplify complex information for viewers with compelling visuals.
- Oversee live newscasts from the control room, coordinating with the technical team and talent to adjust timing and content dynamically.
- Complete post-broadcast reports and archiving tasks promptly.
- Participate proactively in editorial and strategic meetings, contributing ideas and professionalism.
- Stay well-informed about local, national, and global news, maintaining a community awareness.
- Consult with news leadership on challenging editorial decisions.
- Occasional limited travel may be required under special circumstances.
- Adhere to a designated schedule that may include nights, early mornings, weekends, and holidays. Flexibly cover other roles or shifts as needed.
Qualifications
- Preferably some experience producing local television newscasts.
- Strong proficiency in English communication, including reading, writing, and speaking.
- Aptitude for time management and basic arithmetic skills.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Excellent organizational, writing, grammar, and spelling capabilities.
- Confidence and judgment to take leadership when situations require it.
- Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, or equivalent practical experience.
- Ability to perform well under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
- Willingness to work varied newsroom shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record as verified by the company.
Compensation and Benefits
