Overview

This role requires the ability to drive trucks as part of a team or in convoy, managing all aspects of transportation including handling permits and ensuring safety on international routes.

Language and Education Requirements

  • Proficiency in English is necessary.
  • Candidates must have completed secondary (high) school graduation.

Work Environment

Position is based on-site at a trucking company located in Bolton, Ontario, Canada. Remote work is not an option.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Drive straight or articulated trucks to transport goods and materials.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a two-person team or convoy.
  • Obtain required special permits and documentation for transporting cargo on international routes.
  • Conduct inspections on vehicles including tires, lights, brakes, cold storage, and equipment condition.
  • Perform emergency roadside repairs as needed.
  • Complete pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections and oversee vehicle condition.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance to ensure safety and reliability.
  • Communicate important information to central dispatch during routes.
  • Maintain records on cargo, hours driven, distance travelled, and fuel consumption.
  • Secure cargo using tarping and ensure overall cargo safety and security.
  • Safely transport and handle dangerous goods following regulations.

Credentials and Licensing

  • Possession of an AZ class license or equivalent Class 1/1F/A License permitting operation of semi-trailer trucks.
  • Valid Driver's License (Class 1 or A) is mandatory.

Documentation and Reporting Knowledge

  • Familiarity with accident and incident reports.
  • Understanding of bills of lading.
  • Knowledge of dangerous goods occurrence reports.
  • Maintenance of driver logbooks and inspection reports (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip).
  • Preparation of maintenance and repair reports.
  • Handling trans-border transportation documentation.
  • Completing and submitting trip reports.

Additional Requirements and Checks

  • Valid passport required for cross-border travel.
  • Passing a criminal record check.
  • Verification of validity for driver's license and driving record (abstract).
