Job description
Role Overview
Varley Transport is a long-established, family-owned transport and logistics business in Western Australia with four decades of experience delivering essential services across energy, agriculture, and specialist transport. The company has earned its reputation through strong work ethic, reliable customer service, operational discipline, and a deep focus on safety. It is now looking for an experienced Transport Manager to take charge of a major operating division and support ongoing growth and performance.
This is a senior leadership position reporting to the Chief Operating Officer. The role is accountable for the safe, compliant, and efficient running of a substantial transport fleet operating across metropolitan and regional Western Australia. The division supports fuel, LNG, agricultural commodities, and associated transport services, with a strong emphasis on customer satisfaction, safety, compliance, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
You will oversee transport activity across WA, manage scheduling and routing, optimise fleet and labour resources, and work closely with coordinators, supervisors, and drivers to build a high-performing operation. The role also includes maintaining compliance with WAHVA, HVNL, Chain of Responsibility, and Dangerous Goods obligations, while supporting customer service delivery, workforce development, vehicle maintenance planning, cost control, and performance reporting.
What We’re Looking For
The ideal candidate is a hands-on transport leader who is comfortable staying close to day-to-day operations while also developing people and improving systems. You should bring substantial experience in transport, logistics, or fleet management, along with a solid grasp of heavy vehicle compliance and Chain of Responsibility requirements. Experience managing large fleets and driver teams is important, and exposure to fuel, LNG, agriculture, bulk haulage, or similar sectors will be highly valued.
Success in this role also requires strong leadership, clear communication, commercial awareness, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-moving environment. The business places major importance on personal values and is seeking someone who demonstrates humility, honesty, accountability, initiative, self-motivation, and a team-first mindset.
Culture and Values
This organisation operates with the values of a family business. The right person will be someone who leads by example, supports both customers and colleagues, and takes pride in delivering strong outcomes with integrity and a practical approach.
What’s on Offer
This position offers a senior operational leadership opportunity with substantial scope, autonomy, and responsibility. You will join a stable and expanding organisation with a supportive executive team, a family-owned culture, and the potential for a long-term career. A competitive remuneration package is available.
