Role purpose
This position is responsible for handling freight procurement within the assigned region, supporting Lear’s operations through practical, cost-conscious transportation solutions. The role combines planning, supplier coordination, negotiation, and process improvement to strengthen supply chain performance.
Scope of work
- Run transportation RFQs for the regional business need and prepare sourcing recommendations that balance cost and reliability.
- Ensure all transport sourcing activities follow legal requirements, industry rules, and internal policies.
- Work with management to align transport sourcing proposals with carrier strategy objectives.
- Track and review carrier performance and provide input for performance evaluations.
- Support continuous improvement work together with the Supply Chain Design team.
- Lead LOP calls with the relevant Lear operations and coordinate route implementation.
- Keep rates and contracts updated in company systems and internal records in line with compliance requirements.
- Take part in regular sourcing committee meetings.
- Issue route awards to carriers.
- Negotiate commercial terms with carriers to secure favorable conditions.
- Use approved carrier pools to source transportation options and identify the best available solution.
- Support onboarding of new carriers and provide feedback for carrier reviews.
- Partner with plants and central teams to improve supply strategies.
- Act as the escalation contact for operational issues affecting plants.
- Spot opportunities to reduce cost as part of day-to-day work.
- Maintain regular communication with plants, colleagues, and divisional logistics leaders.
- Suggest new ideas to improve material flow and make transport planning more efficient and economical.
Requirements
- University degree in Engineering, Supply Chain, Business Administration, or a related discipline; a logistics-focused major is preferred.
- At least 3 years of experience in logistics, a control tower setting, or with a freight forwarder.
- Hands-on experience managing road, air, ocean, and rail shipments.
- Experience working with transport management systems (TMS).
- Strong command of Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Outlook.
- Good understanding of the laws and regulations relevant to procurement and logistics operations.
- Fluency in English is required; Spanish and additional languages are an advantage.
- Excellent written and verbal communication, along with strong interpersonal skills.
- Proactive mindset with the ability to address issues before they grow.
- Team-oriented approach for working with peers, suppliers, service providers, and customers.
