Job description
Overview
UGL is hiring experienced Transmission Stub Setters and Steelfixers to support a major energy infrastructure project in regional New South Wales. The role sits within the foundations crew working on transmission tower construction for the western section of the HumeLink project.
Project details
UGL and CPB Contractors have been awarded work by Transgrid to deliver approximately 140 km of the western scope of HumeLink, a new 500 kV electricity transmission project. The wider HumeLink development will connect Wagga Wagga, Maragle and Bannaby, and is designed to significantly expand network capacity across Australia’s eastern states. The full project includes around 365 km of new transmission lines along with related new and upgraded infrastructure. The HumeLink West package, valued at $1.4 billion, covers new 500 kV double-circuit transmission lines running from Wagga Wagga Substation to a new substation at Gugaa, the interface point with HumeLink East near Gundagai, as well as a new substation at Maragle in the Snowy Mountains for future connection to Snowy 2.0.
Working arrangement
This position follows a FIFO/DIDO arrangement on a 14:7 roster. The base camp is at Tarcutta, NSW, and flights, accommodation, and meals are provided.
Key duties
- Mark out, align, and install tower foundation stubs according to project requirements
- Place stubs with the correct position, orientation, and elevation for transmission tower structures
- Support foundation preparation activities such as excavation, formwork, and reinforcement placement
- Coordinate with surveyors, riggers, and construction teams during installation work
- Read and apply technical drawings, plans, and engineering specifications
- Complete all work to the required quality standards
- Follow site safety procedures and maintain a strong safety focus at all times
- Assist with broader civil and construction tasks as needed to support team output
About you
The ideal applicant brings proven experience in stub setting or steel fixing on transmission line or tower foundation projects. You should be confident working in remote, team-based environments and able to interpret set-out information and drawings accurately.
Requirements and preferred background
- Construction White Card
- Current driver’s licence
- Certificate III in Steelfixing, preferred
- Demonstrated experience as a Stub Setter or Steel Fixer on transmission tower or transmission line foundation works
- Ability to read drawings and follow set-out information
- Excavator and rigging tickets are highly regarded
- Strong attention to detail
- Good work ethic and the ability to perform well in remote crew-based settings
