Role Summary

This position is a full-time, on-site opportunity in Addis Ababa. The Training and Development Officer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and delivering learning initiatives that strengthen employee capability and performance across the organization. The role requires identifying learning gaps, creating training content, arranging schedules, and leading classroom-based as well as blended learning sessions. It also includes reviewing how well training works, gathering participant feedback, and using insights and data to continuously improve programs. The officer will work closely with HR and department heads to ensure training supports business goals, compliance needs, and service expectations.

Key Duties

  • Evaluate workforce learning needs and turn them into structured training plans.
  • Design curricula, lesson plans, and supporting learning materials for different employee groups.
  • Organize training calendars, coordinate sessions, and manage delivery logistics.
  • Facilitate in-person and blended learning sessions in an engaging and effective way.
  • Track training participation, outcomes, and overall effectiveness using relevant data.
  • Collect feedback from trainees and stakeholders, then apply improvements to future programs.
  • Partner with HR and departmental leaders to align learning initiatives with organizational priorities.
  • Support compliance, service quality, and continuous improvement through targeted development programs.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Education, Organizational Development, Business Administration, or a closely related discipline.
  • Practical experience in training, facilitation, or instructional design, ideally within a service, logistics, or public-sector setting.
  • Strong ability to carry out training needs assessments and build organized learning programs.
  • Working knowledge of learning management systems or similar tools used to plan, monitor, and evaluate training.
  • Good analytical ability to interpret performance data, training results, and feedback.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for delivering sessions and preparing clear learning content.
  • Capacity to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and handle several training projects at once.
  • Understanding of adult learning approaches and competency-based training methods.
  • Comfort using standard office applications, with added value from experience in e-learning or virtual training tools.
  • Strong planning skills, careful attention to detail, and a commitment to fair, inclusive, and non-discriminatory training practices.
