Job description
Role overview
Cambridgeshire and Peterborough NHS Foundation Trust (CPFT) is recruiting 9 Trainee Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners (PWPs) for NHS Cambridge and Peterborough Talking Therapies. This is a permanent position based across different sites in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, with locations allocated according to service requirements.
The Talking Therapies service delivers stepped-care support for people experiencing mild, moderate, and severe common mental health concerns, including anxiety and depression. This role offers the chance to gain a recognised qualification in mental health and begin a career in the Talking Therapies programme.
Training and working pattern
Trainees will spend about 2 days each week at university for the full training period, studying at the University of Essex. The remaining 3 days per week will be spent at work, handling a clinical caseload. During university breaks, trainees are expected to work on their normal workdays.
The role involves a mix of office-based work and home working. Interviews are scheduled for early July 2026, and the university course begins in September 2026. Alternative interview dates will not be available.
Progression and conditions
On successful completion of the training programme, the post will move up to band 5. Successful applicants will also be expected to submit an application for PWP accreditation within 3 months of qualifying.
New starters at CPFT are subject to completion of a probationary period. The employer also notes that sponsorship is not available for all roles; if a post does not qualify for sponsorship, the application will be withdrawn from the process.
