About the Role
Sealord is inviting applications for Trainee Marine Engineers to join its fleet based out of Nelson, New Zealand. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity designed for people who want to build a long-term career in marine engineering while learning on the job.
Sealord is the largest seafood company in the Southern Hemisphere, with more than 60 years of experience across fishing, farming, processing, and global seafood marketing. Founded in 1961, the company is jointly owned by Moana New Zealand and Nippon Suisan Kaisha (Nissui), and operates deep-water fishing activities in New Zealand, Australia, and through international joint ventures.
The business promotes a strong safety culture, structured development, mentoring, and internal progression. It also recognises performance through reward and recognition programmes.
What the Role Involves
- Joining Sealord’s marine engineering team on the fleet and learning the trade in a practical environment.
- Working from Nelson, with flights covered by Sealord when travel to non-Nelson ports is required.
- Following a roster pattern of 2 to 6 weeks onboard, followed by 2 to 6 weeks off.
- Working 12-hour shifts in a 12-on, 12-off arrangement while at sea.

- A positive attitude and the ability to work well in a team.
- A strong focus on safety and process compliance.
