Overview

Jimmy's Farm & Wildlife Park is seeking a motivated Trainee Ranger to join their Small Hoofstock and Farm Team for a 12-month fixed-term contract. This position is tailored for individuals with prior animal care experience who desire to advance their practical skills within a dynamic and expanding zoological collection.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support daily care and welfare duties for small hoofstock and farm animals.
  • Prepare and distribute feed tailored to specific dietary needs.
  • Maintain and clean animal enclosures to high standards.
  • Monitor animal health and behavior, reporting any issues to senior staff promptly.
  • Participate in enrichment activities that promote animal well-being.
  • Handle and move animals safely under supervision.
  • Ensure hygiene, cleanliness, and biosecurity protocols are upheld consistently.
  • Assist with paddock maintenance, fencing, enclosure repairs, and site upkeep.
  • Engage visitors by delivering informative talks focused on animal welfare, conservation, and the park's mission.
  • Adhere strictly to all health, safety, and animal welfare guidelines.

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is reliable, hardworking, and has a sincere passion for animals and conservation. This role requires physical stamina for manual labor, flexibility to work weekends and bank holidays, and a willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions. Enthusiasm for learning, teamwork, and the initiative to work independently are essential.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

  • Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Animal Care, Animal Management, Agriculture, or related fields.
  • Previous practical experience gained through volunteering, placements, or employment in zoos, wildlife parks, farm parks, commercial farms, or similar animal collections.
  • Strong work ethic combined with genuine commitment to animal welfare and husbandry excellence.
  • Physical fitness and ability to perform demanding outdoor tasks.
  • Good communication skills and readiness to work in a team environment.

Desirable Attributes

  • Experience working specifically with hoofstock or livestock.
  • Possession of a full UK driving license.
  • Basic skills in tractor operation or machinery handling.
  • Practical abilities in maintenance or fencing work.
