Trades Team Leader - West Pilbara

Overview

Water Corporation is seeking a permanent Trades Team Leader based in Karratha, Western Australia, to oversee the provision of water and wastewater services in the Northwest Region, covering Onslow, Millstream, Harding Dam, Point Samson, Wickham, and Karratha. This role involves managing a multi-skilled team including boilermakers, fitters, machinists, and electricians supported by a fully equipped workshop.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and motivate a team of competent tradespeople delivering water and wastewater services.
• Organise, prioritise, and schedule workloads of local teams and contractors effectively.
• Champion team safety practices including conducting meetings, preparing safe work packs, performing workplace inspections, identifying hazards, and managing corrective actions.
• Provide in-field supervision and mentoring to ensure work quality and safety adherence while fostering a collaborative team culture.
• Promote a zero-injury safety environment where health and safety are paramount.
• Manage day-to-day operations of Electricians, Mechanical Fitters, and Boilermakers according to resource needs and escalate issues to the Operations Manager as needed.
• Oversee maintenance and repairs of complex UF filtration water and wastewater plants in line with regulatory and corporate standards in coordination with the Treatment Team Leader.
• Manage water, sewer, and seawater supply assets such as pump stations, tanks, bore fields, and transfer mains.
• Maintain effective relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.

Required Skills and Experience

• Proven leadership and operational management experience of multi-disciplinary teams.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Understanding of Water and Wastewater Network Scheme Operations and Maintenance.
• Completion or progress towards Certificate IV in Frontline Management or an equivalent qualification.
• Demonstrated commitment to Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) standards.
• Possession of a Western Australian “C” Class Driver's Licence.

Preferred Qualifications

• Mechanical Fitter or Electrical Trades qualification.
• Completion of Certificate III in Water Operations or equivalent trades qualification.
