Role Overview
We have an opening for a Trade Assistant at our Ballarat site, working a night shift on a 4 days on/4 days off roster. This role involves supporting the maintenance of Velocity DMUs, integral to the V/Line Fleet that transports passengers across regional Victoria. The role contributes to the management and upkeep of V/Line rolling stock.
Key Duties
- Perform a variety of general support tasks assisting with servicing, testing, repairing, overhauling, or modifying Velocity units and their components.
- Execute housekeeping responsibilities as directed by supervisors or trades personnel.
- Ensure that fleet operations maintain efficiency, safety, and comply with pertinent industry standards.
- Remove skirting panels and other train elements safely and efficiently.
- Dismantle, reassemble, and mount various train components as part of maintenance activities.
- Operate forklifts; experience with overhead cranes or rigging/dogging is advantageous.
- Conduct detailed cleaning of vehicles, including steam cleaning seats, washing windows, and cleaning service pits.
Candidate Profile
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work outcomes.
- Effective communication skills coupled with good time management abilities.
- Ability to follow directions and maintain a proactive, positive work approach.
- Willingness and flexibility to work rotating rosters that include weekends and public holidays.
- Physical capability to perform tasks that may involve manual labor.
- Prior experience in rail car maintenance is favourable but not mandatory.
- Competence in reading technical documents such as engineering drawings and operational manuals.
