Job description
Role overview
We are looking for a Town Warden to support environmental enforcement and community safety in the Dartford DA1 area. This frontline position involves working outdoors, engaging with the public, and helping to reduce environmental crime and anti-social behaviour.
Working pattern
This is a part-time role of up to 40 hours per week, covering Monday to Sunday on a rolling rota with 2 rest days. Shift times are 08:00–16:00 and 10:00–18:00.
Pay
The rate of pay is £13.45 per hour, with wages paid weekly every Friday.
About the organisation
The employer supports local authorities with services aimed at improving community safety and tackling environmental offences. Their work includes dealing with littering, fly-tipping, business waste compliance, anti-social behaviour, and retail crime such as shop theft. The organisation also focuses on cleaner, safer, and greener communities, while offering colleagues training, development, and progression opportunities.
Main duties
- Patrol town centre and other public areas on foot.
- Spot and deal with offences such as littering and fly-tipping.
- Issue Fixed Penalty Notices using handheld devices or manual processes.
- Collect and keep evidence for enforcement action and possible prosecutions.
- Prepare clear daily records and activity reports.
- Attend court and assist with legal proceedings when needed.
- Respond to shop theft and anti-social behaviour in order to discourage further incidents.
- Work closely with the Local Authority and relevant partner organisations.
What you need
A valid SIA Door Supervisor Licence is essential. Candidates must also have a full 5-year checkable employment history. The role suits someone with strong communication and people skills, a professional and approachable attitude, good attention to detail, and sound judgement. You should be able to stay calm under pressure and be comfortable working outdoors in changing weather conditions. Prior enforcement or security experience would be helpful, though it is not mandatory.
Training and development
You will complete a structured training programme that covers environmental law, including the Environmental Protection Act 1990, anti-social behaviour enforcement, communication and conflict management, and the daily use of equipment. The training also leads to a recognised qualification in environmental awareness.
