About the Role

We are seeking a skilled bilingual expert fluent in both Tongan and English to join our team on a contract basis. This remote position offers an hourly pay rate between $45 and $95, with a flexible weekly commitment ranging from 10 to 40 hours.

Key Responsibilities

• Convert Tongan audio and video recordings accurately into written text, complete with exact timestamps.
• Evaluate and articulate the speakers' emotional tone and intent across various situations.
• Proofread transcriptions to ensure grammatical accuracy, clarity, and natural flow in both languages.
• Clarify the meanings of complex or idiomatic Tongan terms for audiences unfamiliar with the language.
• Offer in-depth feedback concerning language use, tone, and subtle linguistic details present in the material.
• Coordinate with project managers to deliver high-quality work within deadlines.
• Support the enhancement of AI language models through specialized linguistic contributions.

Candidate Requirements

• Native or near-native proficiency in Tongan and English, with excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Professional experience in transcribing audio and video content with accurate timestamping.
• Excellent ability to interpret emotional nuances, tone, and speaker intent within linguistic content.
• Deep understanding of Tongan grammar, vocabulary, idiomatic expressions, and cultural references.
• Preferred experience or education in linguistics, translation, localization, or related language fields.
• Capable of producing detailed and well-organized linguistic analyses of complex texts.
