Job description
About the Company
Essity Australasia is a major player in consumer care and hygiene solutions, producing and selling well-known brands such as Sorbent, Purex, Handee Ultra, Libra, Tork, and TENA. The organisation’s mission is to make everyday life easier through hygiene, health, and well-being.
About the Role
This opening at the Kawerau site is for three Tissue Manufacturing Cadets. The purpose of the role is to build a future talent pool of operators, help reduce overtime for leave coverage, support succession planning in operations, create an entry pathway into the tissue manufacturing industry, and strengthen papermaking capability to support business continuity.
The company is seeking people who live its values and are comfortable questioning ideas, trying new approaches, experimenting, and working at pace. Continuous improvement of both products and personal performance is encouraged.
What You Will Do
- Build core papermaking knowledge through guided self-study modules with support from experienced papermakers.
- Demonstrate learning by presenting module assessments to the mill management team.
- Move into entry-level shift work, including roles at the pulpers and KPM3, while growing practical capability on the job.
- Earn sign-off from senior operators once you have shown the required knowledge, skills, and performance standards.
- Work on shifts as required after sign-off, with higher pay when filling trained cover roles.
- Potentially progress into future vacancies based on performance and business requirements.
Ongoing on-the-job training will be provided, with a strong focus on safe work practices so you can finish every shift safely and continue developing your career.
About You
- You should have at least NCEA Level 3 with English, Mathematics, and Science.
- You must be available for rotating shift work.
- You need to work well with others, be dependable and conscientious, and be willing to learn while coping with pressure and challenges with energy and enthusiasm.
- Computer literacy is required.
- You should already hold, or be able to obtain, crane and forklift licences.
Preferred Experience
- A technical or trade qualification is an advantage, though not essential.
- Experience in an industrial setting is preferred, particularly with health and safety requirements and hazard awareness.
Recruitment Requirements
- All applicants will complete a range of aptitude assessments.
- You must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
- You must be willing to complete a police check.
- You must be prepared for pre-employment drug and medical screening.
Terms and Conditions
The terms and conditions for this position are available on request and are covered by the Pulp & Paper Collective Agreement.
