Job description

Role overview

An opportunity has opened within the therapies booking centre at Aneurin Bevan University Health Board for an energetic, organised and motivated clerical officer. The post sits in a supportive team and plays an important part in keeping the Therapy Services Booking Centre running efficiently.

The role suits someone who welcomes change, wants to build experience across therapies, and can work in a busy administrative environment. Strong communication, the ability to stay calm under pressure, and confidence in meeting deadlines are all essential.

Key duties

You will help the booking administration team with the day-to-day running of the department, including work connected to WPAS. You will also need to plan and manage your own workload, while contributing effectively as part of a team.

Essential experience and skills

Previous administrative experience is required. You should be comfortable using a computer, including Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel, and ideally have working knowledge of Health Board systems such as WelshPAS.

Working with the Health Board

Aneurin Bevan University Health Board serves the communities of Gwent and is a large NHS employer with more than 14,000 staff and volunteers. Its work covers hospitals, GP practices, community services and mental health services. Research, education and innovation are central to the organisation, and its longer-term goals focus on prevention, reducing health inequalities and improving wellbeing in partnership with local communities and organisations.

The Health Board promotes an inclusive and respectful workplace and supports learning, development and flexible working where possible. Its values are Kindness, Integrity and Respect.

Equality, adjustments and application process

Applications are welcomed from people with protected characteristics, including disabled and neurodiverse candidates, as well as members of the Armed Forces Community. Welsh-language applications are encouraged and will be treated no less favourably than English applications.

If you need any reasonable adjustments, alternative document formats or support to take part in the recruitment process, you can contact the recruiting manager listed in the advert or the recruitment team on 01495 745805 option 3, or email abb.vacancyrequests@wales.nhs.uk. You do not have to share personal or medical details; just explain what support would help you participate fully.

If you are shortlisted, recruitment contact will be sent to the email address used in your application, so it should be checked regularly. A conditional offer and information pack will also be emailed if you are successful at interview.

Additional information and conditions

The vacancy may close early, so applications should be submitted promptly. It can also be withdrawn if the post is filled through internal redeployment. ABUHB supports flexible working.

All Health Board sites are smoke-free by law, and smoking is not permitted on any ABUHB premises for staff, contractors, patients or visitors. Support to quit smoking is available through the Health Board’s Help Me Quit team.

The Band 3 salary scale has been adjusted under the NHS Agenda for Change pay award for 2026/2027 and will be implemented in August 2026, backdated to 01 April 2026 where applicable.

Desirable language requirement

Welsh speaking ability is desirable, and Welsh and English speakers are equally welcome to apply. Welsh language skills at levels 1 to 5 in understanding, speaking, reading and writing are considered an advantage.
