Job description
Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated Theatre Porter to join the team at UPMC Aut Even Hospital in Kilkenny on a permanent basis. The position involves supporting theatre operations to ensure patient safety and smooth procedural flow within clinical areas.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with the safe transfer of patients to and from the theatre, endoscopy, and recovery rooms.
- Support theatre nursing staff by helping position patients appropriately for procedures.
- Prepare the theatre area each morning to ensure readiness for the day's patient list.
- Maintain adequate supplies of fluids and theatre attire within clinical and changing areas.
- Remove clinical and non-clinical waste from contaminated zones.
- Ensure laundry is cleared and sorted correctly from changing and utility areas.
- Keep changing rooms clean and organized.
- Assemble theatre equipment and supplies, including procedure packs, drapes, and gowns for scheduled lists in theatres and scope rooms.
- Manage delivery of stores orders to relevant storage rooms.
- Clean floors between procedures and transport instruments to CSSD for reprocessing after each case.
- Maintain cleanliness and functionality of all equipment (e.g. patient trolleys); report defects and label faulty items accordingly.
- Uphold high standards of Health and Safety within the workplace, reporting any incidents or hazards to maintain a secure environment for patients, visitors, and colleagues.
- Assist with pharmacy orders and cleaning duties beyond those assigned to housekeeping staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by theatre management.
Qualifications and Experience
- A relevant FETAC Level 5 qualification is advantageous but not mandatory.
- Previous hospital experience is desirable but not essential.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Salary and Work Hours
The annual salary ranges from €31,815 to €40,473, based on a 39-hour workweek.
