Role overview

This position is for a Trainee Baker at Tesco in Inverness, working as part of the store team in a busy, customer-focused environment. The role involves preparing fresh bakery products throughout the day, supporting smooth store operations, and delivering excellent service to shoppers.

Working pattern and pay

The availability window for this role is Sunday 07:00 to 11:30, Wednesday 05:30 to 16:00, Friday 05:30 to 16:00, and Saturday 05:30 to 16:00. Pay starts at £13.28 per hour, rising to £14.55 per hour for stores within the M25. Additional location-based payments may also apply. New colleagues are normally offered a minimum of 16 guaranteed hours each week, though roles with at least 12 hours weekly may also be available. Shift times are scheduled within the stated availability window, with 3 weeks' notice provided. Flexibility is encouraged where availability is close to, but not exactly aligned with, the advertised times.

What you will do

You will help serve shoppers well every day, working in a varied store role that requires energy, teamwork, and a strong focus on the customer. The job includes baking products in batches so fresh items are available through the day, protecting product quality, keeping waste low, and following expected yields. You will also work safely with equipment, carry out required checks, and support service, picking, replenishment, and other store areas when needed.

Food safety and store standards

The role requires careful handling of products, strict compliance with food hygiene, safety, and allergen rules, and responsible disposal of waste, including food waste and recycling routines. You will need to follow training, policies, and safe-and-legal procedures, including checking emergency stop buttons and making sure machinery is safe before use.

Customer and team focus

You will be expected to know your customers, offer warm and natural service, and build positive relationships so each shopper leaves with a good experience. The role also calls for awareness of store performance, understanding how your work contributes to service, sales, waste reduction, shrink control, and profit.
