Territory Manager - Lower South Island

Role overview

Hill’s Pet Nutrition, part of Colgate-Palmolive, is hiring a Territory Manager for the Lower South Island. The ideal base location is Christchurch or Dunedin. This is an on-the-ground role focused on veterinary clinics and pet retail stores across the region.

What the role involves

You will develop and strengthen relationships with veterinary and pet retail customers in the Lower South Island. The role requires regular field visits, professional meetings, and clinical seminars to support the Hill’s brand and grow the recommendation and distribution of therapeutic and wellness diets.

Depending on your home base, travel will be structured in one to two regional trips during each four-week cycle, usually lasting three to five days. These trips are designed to create meaningful engagement across the territory.

You will work as both a clinical and commercial adviser, using your expertise to support veterinary teams in building nutrition into standard care. You will also turn technical information and data into practical actions that help clinics and stores grow.

Training and development

Hill’s offers strong support during your first 12 months in the role. You will complete a detailed induction and training program, gain exposure to the veterinary and pet channels, receive internal sales training to sharpen influence and negotiation skills, and be equipped to develop your territory and customer relationships. You will also take part in sales meetings and conferences with your team.

Candidate profile

The company is looking for someone who can confidently discuss technical topics with veterinary professionals, understand customer needs, and recommend solutions that help the patient, the pet parent, and the clinic or store. You should be motivated to hit territory goals, comfortable leading seminars and in-clinic training, and able to use Google Suite or similar tools along with data analysis to shape your approach.

Requirements

A bachelor’s degree is required. Backgrounds in business or marketing are valued, and applicants with a Veterinary Science degree are especially encouraged because clinical credibility is important for the role.

Previous experience in field sales, the veterinary industry, FMCG, pharmaceuticals, or nutrition is preferred. You should be fluent in English, comfortable with Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and other company tools, and hold a valid driver’s licence.
