Role overview
This position is responsible for coordinating the day-to-day functioning of hired terminals at Cochin HHA. The job focuses on keeping operations running smoothly, ensuring competent manpower is available, and making sure the terminal follows the agreed terms and conditions so product supply to customers remains uninterrupted.
Primary purpose
The role exists to oversee routine terminal activities by checking operational controls, confirming compliance, and supporting safe, efficient, and reliable product movement through hired terminal facilities.
Key responsibilities
- Support planning for hired terminal activities and make sure daily execution follows functional standards and regulations.
- Help roll out new initiatives and projects in line with established policies to meet future terminal requirements.
- Share ideas to improve business processes, operating specifications, and best practices.
- Contribute to annual budget preparation and track operating costs against approved spending.
- Check that site infrastructure is ready and aligned with the agreement’s terms and conditions.
- Ensure the required manpower is available as planned so routine terminal work continues without disruption.
- Oversee unloading, storage, and dispatch activities, along with site infrastructure, while ensuring alignment with the agreement and internal RIL safety and quality guidelines.
- Monitor terminal operator performance to confirm service delivery as per agreement and to maintain quality standards that help reduce customer complaints.
- Review transit losses, operating losses, and product losses and take action to keep them within target levels.
- Track testing and calibration of pressure vessels, weighbridges, and other supporting equipment so customer complaints are minimized and compliance is maintained.
- Review laboratory results to ensure product quality before tank trucks are dispatched.
- Monitor market indents so customers receive product on time and satisfaction levels improve.
- Maintain healthy working relationships with manpower to prevent industrial disputes that could affect terminal continuity.
- Carry out periodic audits to check statutory compliance, ensure timely renewal and submission of licenses and certificates by the terminal operator, and initiate action when agreement terms are breached.
- Perform regular audits to verify compliance with RIL’s operational, health, safety, and quality requirements, and follow up until audit points are closed.
- Stay aligned with changes in internal, regulatory, and statutory rules, processes, and procedures to keep operations compliant and uninterrupted.
- Ensure tank trucks remain available and maintained regularly, with compliance to RIL and statutory requirements for quality and quantity.
- Supervise third-party surveyors so that all IQCM-related quality requirements are met.
People management
- Take part in recruitment activities and help retain and engage the team.
- Set performance goals, review team performance, conduct appraisals, and provide ongoing feedback and guidance.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members so they can handle larger and more complex responsibilities.
- Assess training and development needs for the team and recommend learning interventions.
Success metrics
- Volume dispatches achieved versus plan.
- Zero safety incidents in terminal operations.
- Full availability of tankages.
- Lower transit losses and operational losses.
- No stock or supply disruption in the market because of terminal interruption.
