Job description

Role overview

This position involves carrying out coating work for production parts and components in a manufacturing environment. The technician will prepare surfaces, apply coating materials, operate spray and robotic systems where required, inspect results against specifications, and maintain the equipment and workspace used in the process.

Key duties

  • Choose and prepare coating powders based on defined formulas and technical requirements, then create spray patterns and application sequences.
  • Develop, update, test, implement, and control robot programs when the process calls for robotic application.
  • Use degreasing and blasting equipment to clean and prepare component surfaces before coating.
  • Fit and protect parts using fixtures, rubber, tape, Tafa, antibond, or metal masks before coating begins.
  • Maintain coating tools and fixtures, separate worn items, and escalate them to the supervisor or manager for action.
  • Set up and run manual, semi-automatic, and robotic spray systems to apply coating materials.
  • Adjust bake and cure oven settings to the required temperature and record timing on process charts.
  • Remove masking materials, clean overspray, and wash completed parts.
  • Check surfaces before and after coating for defects and specification compliance using micrometers, calipers, and similar measuring tools.
  • Clean and service spray and coating equipment, fixtures, degreasers, and blast cabinets, and complete daily 5S and preventive maintenance checklists.
  • Replace carbon columns or dust collector filters according to approved schedules and methods.
  • Take part in audits, inspections, new product introduction activities, and process improvement efforts.
  • Learn additional related skills, obtain required endorsements, and move across production tasks as needed to support output requirements.
  • Help train other technicians when required to meet production needs.
  • Follow all safety rules and immediately report unsafe actions or conditions.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by management.

Technical requirements

  • NITEC qualification in Precision Machining, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechatronics.
  • Hands-on experience with lifting equipment, degreasers, surface preparation tools, D-gun cubicles, plasma spray systems, HVOF systems, industrial robots, and gas panels.
  • Must have the relevant internal process stamp(s).
  • Strong ability to use precision measuring instruments and hand tools.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints.
  • Working understanding of human factors and error management.
  • Familiarity with company instructions, internal processes, rework instructions, OEM manuals, and MSDS labels.
  • Working knowledge of production management software and other internal control systems.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance for about 25% of a typical workday.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods as needed.

Work expectations

This is an on-site production role in Singapore. The job requires consistent attention to detail, safe work habits, and the flexibility to support different coating and finishing tasks within the cell.
