Job description

About the organisation

Transport for NSW works to deliver a transport network that is safe, connected and efficient for the people, communities and industries of New South Wales.

Role overview

This permanent full-time Technician Assistant position is based in Tweed Heads West, NSW, and sits within the Trades & Services category. It is an in-person role with a strong focus on practical site support, safety, store operations, and maintenance-related assistance.

What you'll be doing

In this role, you will handle a variety of labouring, non-trade construction, and maintenance tasks. The work includes operating small plant and hand tools, driving vehicles to support operational activities, and completing duties to a high standard both on your own and as part of a team.

You will be expected to carry out safety checks, perform basic upkeep of equipment, keep accurate records, and resolve routine issues independently. Where needed, you will escalate more complex matters and may also guide other team members or supervise small work groups to help tasks stay on track.

A strong focus of the role is WHS and environmental compliance. You will help identify and manage risks, follow safe work practices, and contribute to efficient, high-quality outcomes.

Store and warehouse responsibilities are also a key part of the job. These include receiving, checking, storing, and issuing electrical stock; updating inventory records in SAP; managing tools, equipment, and PPE; preparing job kits; coordinating deliveries and suppliers; and keeping the storeroom organised and aligned with WHS requirements.

About you

You are a reliable and safety-conscious person with practical experience in labouring, construction, or maintenance environments. You are comfortable working with limited supervision while still contributing positively to team objectives.

You should be confident using tools and equipment, and you need good literacy and numeracy skills to maintain records and communicate clearly. The ability to follow procedures, solve routine problems, and support or guide others when required is important. Experience leading small teams is considered an advantage.

Requirements and licence conditions

You must hold a current Medium Rigid (MR) driver’s licence and a White Card. You also need relevant safety certifications, including working safely near live electrical cables, or you must be willing to obtain them. A strong commitment to safe work practices and quality standards is essential.
