Job description

About Jumbo Interactive

Jumbo Interactive is a global digital lottery technology company that has expanded over 30 years from a single computer into an ASX-listed business operating across Australia, the UK, Canada and the USA. The company supports thousands of good causes worldwide and contributed more than $290 million in FY25. It builds platforms and products that enable lottery operations and not-for-profit fundraising at scale.

The organisation is growing and continually changing, so it suits people who are comfortable with uncertainty, think creatively, take ownership, and adapt quickly as priorities shift.

Role Overview

Jumbo is developing a Define pipeline within its Engineering function. This team sits between business stakeholders and engineering, ensuring work is well understood, validated, and ready for build before it reaches delivery. As a Technical Business Analyst, you will take broad business problems and convert them into clear, structured requirements that help engineering deliver high-quality outcomes at scale.

You will work as part of the Engineering Trio alongside the Engineering Manager and Product Designer to align business needs, technical feasibility, and user experience. The role is suited to someone who asks sharp questions, challenges assumptions in a constructive way, and helps bring clarity to delivery.

Reports to: Delivery Lead

What Success Looks Like

  • Engineering receives work that consistently meets the Definition of Ready, with agreed acceptance criteria, clear requirements, and stakeholder alignment before delivery starts.
  • Upfront clarification of problems leads to less rework and fewer delays during delivery.
  • Functional requirements are formally aligned and signed off by stakeholders before the work is handed to engineering.
  • Documentation remains accurate, consistent, and useful as a reference from definition through to delivery, supporting smoother execution across teams.

Why This Role Stands Out

  • You will help shape a new function instead of joining an already mature process.
  • Your work will improve how clearly initiatives are defined before they reach engineering, helping prevent rework and delays.
  • You will collaborate across business and technical teams and develop strong working relationships.
  • The focus is on problem definition, requirement quality, and delivery readiness rather than owning the roadmap.

Key Challenges

  • The Define pipeline is still developing, and you will contribute to its evolution.
  • You will need to introduce structure and discipline without slowing the pace of delivery.
  • The role involves balancing the needs of multiple stakeholders.

What You Will Do

  • Convert stakeholder input and tactical requests into structured requirements, user journeys, acceptance criteria, and supporting documentation.
  • Make sure work is fully prepared against the Definition of Ready before it enters the delivery queue.
  • Keep a steady flow of build-ready items available to support planning of upcoming work.
  • Run workshops and stakeholder sessions to discover requirements, test business rules, and expose assumptions.
  • Identify and communicate downstream effects on operations, support, customer success, and other impacted teams.
  • Serve as a key contact for stakeholders and help drive agreement and sign-off on functional requirements.
  • Work closely with the Engineering Trio to balance functionality, user experience, and technical practicality.
  • Partner with Engineering Managers to surface constraints early and incorporate them into scope.
  • Collaborate with Product Designers so journeys and acceptance criteria match the intended product behaviour.
  • Help improve working methods, tools, and documentation standards over time.

What You Need to Bring

  • Experience gathering and checking requirements through interviews, workshops, and collaborative discovery sessions.
  • Ability to write strong functional specifications and turn uncertainty into practical, actionable requirements.
  • Working knowledge of prioritisation methods such as MoSCoW or similar frameworks.
  • Sound understanding of the software delivery lifecycle and agile approaches such as Scrum or Kanban.
  • Experience working with governance practices like Definition of Ready and Definition of Done.
  • Proficiency with backlog and documentation tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively with both technical and non-technical people.
  • An analytical, detail-oriented approach.
  • Confidence to question assumptions, spot gaps, identify edge cases, and raise risks early.
  • A collaborative style and the ability to build alignment across business, design, and engineering groups.

Working Arrangements

This role is based in Brisbane at the Head Office. Jumbo uses a hybrid model with three days in the office each week and two days working from home. Flexible working hours are also available, with core collaboration hours from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.

Rewards and Benefits

  • Short-term incentive program linked to company performance.
  • Employee Assistance Program with counselling and coaching support.
  • Award-winning talent management programs for career growth and skill development.
  • On-site chefs in Brisbane providing fresh gourmet lunches every day and breakfast twice a week.
  • Ability to work from almost anywhere in the world for up to 120 days each year.
  • A social workplace culture with activities such as lunchtime chess, Jumbo band, corporate games, an indoor rock climbing group, Friday socials, and diversity and inclusion events.
  • Novated leasing through the Origin 360 EV Program.
  • Generous parental leave: 14 weeks paid for primary carers and 4 weeks for partners.

Additional Information

Any offer will be subject to pre-employment checks through Jumbo’s partner, Checkmate, and candidates must have current and valid working rights.
