Job Overview

This role oversees offshore operations and maintenance of Remotely Operated Vehicle (ROV) systems, including base refits and planned upkeep. The position ensures compliance with policies and project needs for managing capital equipment, supports development of operational procedures and risk assessments, and handles work package preparation for ROVs, including certifications and insurance. It is responsible for spares and consumables procurement in advance, supervision of ROV mobilization onboard vessels or rigs, and providing technical and operational leadership to ROV personnel.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage all company ROV operations ensuring elimination of hazards to personnel, assets, and company interests.
• Assess ROV resource needs and coordinate with teams to ensure operations align with company and international safety standards (IMCA).
• Supervise installation, modification, and repair of ROV equipment and shipboard systems in line with regulatory and company guidelines.
• Monitor certification and ongoing training of ROV staff through drills and client-approved programs to maintain competency.
• Evaluate critical equipment, spare parts, and consumables to maintain necessary stock levels and avoid operational disruptions.
• Plan and organize mobilization activities, prepare operational plans and train teams to deliver safe, efficient project performance.
• Engage with clients and external stakeholders to address ROV and safety matters while offering expert technical advice for decision-making support.
• Conduct annual audits of dive systems to verify proper maintenance and function across all stations.
• Ensure timely production and quality of technical manuals and documentation within the Subsea department.
• Develop and uphold a comprehensive safety manual detailing procedures to protect ROV team health and safety, ensuring compliance with laws and promoting high safety standards.
• Lead planning, evaluation, and review of ROV equipment and systems to confirm suitability and effectiveness.
• Maintain active communication with Head Office and key departments on ROV activities and equipment status.
• Stay informed of company policies and relevant national and global regulations concerning ROV safety; disseminate updates to supervisory staff.
• Visit operational sites to engage with supervisors and clients on operational and safety topics.
• Participate in industry forums to monitor regional and international safety trends; contribute to policy and procedure improvements to enhance ROV safety alignment with best practices.
• Prepare detailed work packages per ROV system including technical readiness, spare parts inventory, certifications, and insurance compliance.
• Contribute to drafting operational procedures and risk assessments tailored to project-specific ROV operations.
• Plan integration and application of sensors on ROVs to meet varying project requirements.

Essential Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree or diploma in electronics, electrical, mechanical engineering, or a related field.
• Formal safety qualification or significant safety experience such as NEBOSH International Diploma (optional).
• Certified Internal or Lead Auditor.
• Minimum 10 years relevant experience, including 5 years at Superintendent level in ROV operations.
• Certified by National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) or equivalent.
• Emergency First Aid at Work and Emergency Response Training completion.
• Desirable: ISO Lead Auditor or similar credentials.
• ROV System Audit and Assurance training compliant with IMCA R006 standards.
• Valid UAE driver’s license.
