Job description
About the Company
Saudi Gold Refinery (SGR) is a Saudi-based mining and precious-metals business focused on gold and precious-metal refining, bullion manufacturing, and specialized value-added services. The company operates as part of the Kingdom’s mining ecosystem and aligns its activities with Vision 2030, the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources (MIM) framework, and relevant Saudi and international standards. SGR emphasizes responsibly sourced, traceable, and certified bullion, with operations guided by LBMA Good Delivery and ISO-aligned quality practices.
Role Summary
SGR is looking for a Team Leader Geologist in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia to manage the technical review of mineral assets and exploration information. The role supports the company’s objective of securing dependable upstream supply for gold refining, while ensuring that geological assessments follow MIM regulations and recognized industry practices. It acts as a bridge between exploration activity and the refinery’s sourcing and due-diligence strategy.
This position is central to confirming the geological reliability of possible feedstock sources. It helps strengthen responsible sourcing by carrying out technical due diligence and reducing supply-related risks.
Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and oversee exploration programs so they support SGR’s business goals and comply with license conditions.
- Ensure field work is performed safely and in line with environmental approvals and permit requirements.
- Carry out detailed technical reviews of mining assets to assess the quality and quantity of resources available for refining feedstock.
- Verify third-party geological data to support responsible sourcing checks and KYC-related processes.
- Make sure exploration activities and required reports comply with Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources and Saudi Geological Survey requirements.
- Prepare and submit technical documents to the relevant authorities when needed.
- Lead and support junior geologists and field technicians to maintain strong data quality and efficient operations.
- Introduce training initiatives that improve technical capability and field safety awareness.
- Compile, review, and interpret geological information using standard software and GIS tools.
- Examine resource estimates to confirm they are aligned with international reporting standards such as JORC or NI 43-101.
- Work with external consultants and laboratories to ensure assay results are accurate and delivered on time.
- Coordinate with internal teams so that geological findings support both operational and commercial decisions.
- Identify geological risks within potential supply chains and recommend mitigation measures to senior management.
- Assess the technical feasibility of new mining licenses and exploration prospects.
- Write detailed technical reports for internal decision-making and regulatory submission.
- Maintain an orderly, secure geological database for long-term asset evaluation and reference.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Earth Sciences, or a closely related discipline from an accredited university.
- At least 15 years of experience in mineral exploration, resource estimation, or mining geology.
- Strong experience in leading exploration teams and field operations within the Middle East.
- Good understanding of Saudi mining regulations and MIM licensing procedures.
- Hands-on ability with geological modeling tools and GIS software such as ArcGIS or Surpac.
- Practical experience in mineral asset due diligence and resource-data evaluation.
- Ability to prepare clear technical reports for regulators and investors.
- English fluency is required; Arabic is preferred for engaging with local stakeholders.
- Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree or PhD in Economic Geology or Mineral Exploration.
- Professional credentials such as Certified Professional Geologist (CPG) are an added advantage.
- Experience specifically related to gold and silver deposit exploration is preferred.
- Familiarity with LBMA Responsible Gold Guidance and supply-chain due diligence is desirable.
Preferred Profile and Success Expectations
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical leadership, regulatory awareness, and the ability to build a high-performing geology team. Success in the role includes completing technical assessments for at least three potential mining assets in the first year, achieving full compliance with MIM and SGS reporting expectations, establishing a standardized due-diligence process, implementing strong geological data controls, developing team competencies, producing reliable resource estimates, and effectively reducing identified geological risks in supply chains.
Equal Opportunity
Saudi Gold Refinery encourages applications from all eligible candidates. Selection is based on job requirements, skills, experience, and alignment with Saudization and Vision 2030 priorities.
