Role Overview

The Tea Sommelier will elevate the tea service experience, complementing the restaurant's offerings by managing the tea program with expertise in Chinese teas and their traditions. This position involves delivering personalized tea ceremonies, pairing recommendations, and educational presentations to enrich guest satisfaction while collaborating with restaurant leadership and service teams to maintain exceptional hospitality standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Offer expert tea recommendations tailored to guest tastes and menu items.
  • Execute traditional and innovative tea preparation and service aligned with Yi's quality standards.
  • Prepare premium Chinese teas, observing precise brewing methods, ideal temperatures, steep durations, and elegant service presentation.
  • Educate guests on tea provenance, processing, flavour profiles, and cultural heritage.
  • Conduct interactive tableside tea ceremonies and presentations.
  • Ensure consistent quality and delivery in tea service.
  • Create memorable tea experiences with personalized attention and recommend pairings that enhance the dining menu.
  • Anticipate guest preferences and special requests to provide tailored experiences.
  • Promote a warm and engaging atmosphere based on the Heartist® philosophy.
  • Manage tea inventory, maintain stock levels, quality, and storage standards.
  • Coordinate sourcing of premium teas with suppliers, assist with seasonal menu planning, and monitor tea-related costs minimizing waste.
  • Maintain operational standards including cleanliness, equipment upkeep, and adherence to safety and hotel policies.
  • Collaborate on menu development with culinary staff to identify tea pairing opportunities.
  • Lead training sessions to enhance team knowledge on tea preparation, service protocols, and guest engagement.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and represent the restaurant at tea-related events.
  • Support tea-focused events, masterclasses, promotions, sustainability initiatives, and contribute to the hotel's corporate social responsibility programs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to uphold brand excellence and service.

Candidate Profile

  • Diploma or degree in Hospitality Management, Food & Beverage, Tea Studies, or a related field.
  • Certified Tea Sommelier or equivalent professional tea qualification.
  • At least three years’ experience in luxury F&B service, specialty tea operations, or related roles.
  • In-depth knowledge of Chinese teas, tea regions, production techniques, and cultural contexts.
  • Experience in tea pairing and delivering premium guest experiences highly preferred.
  • Background in high-end hotels or fine dining is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, including adeptness in conducting tableside ceremonies.
  • Proficient English; Mandarin or additional languages are a plus.
  • Professional appearance, reliable, detail-oriented, and passionate about tea culture.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective team collaboration abilities.
