Job description
Position Overview
This role focuses on advancing sustainability initiatives in Glacier National Park and surrounding communities, with an emphasis on energy efficiency, environmental education, and community engagement. The Sustainability Educator will research and promote energy-saving strategies, support community outreach efforts, and collaborate with diverse local organizations to foster sustainable practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Investigate methods to enhance energy efficiency and functionality at the NCAT SIFT Farm, working alongside Sustainable Agriculture and Farm Management teams to identify energy-efficient technologies and expansion opportunities.
- Assist in creating and disseminating a guide aimed at helping rural communities strengthen their economies, build partnerships, and develop local food and energy resilience against climate impacts.
- Support the Whitefish School District by engaging K-12 and community members in sustainability programs and propagating knowledge from the Center for Sustainability and Entrepreneurship.
- Collaborate with local government and organizations such as the Clark Fork Coalition and Climate Smart Missoula to promote conservation, energy savings, climate action, river basin literacy, and community preparedness.
- Contribute to food production and greenhouse management efforts, including aquaponics data collection, at Freedom Gardens in the Frenchtown School District.
- Assist the National Wildlife Federation in educational outreach to encourage environmental stewardship and protect habitats through programs like Eco-Schools USA and Garden for Wildlife.
- Participate in waste reduction, green job training, and community reuse initiatives with Home ReSource to promote zero waste goals.
- Lead and coordinate educational programs promoting bicycle and pedestrian safety, transportation design, and community outreach to enhance understanding of sustainable transportation alternatives.
- Support efforts to expand electric vehicle infrastructure and education in rural Montana communities, including outreach for the Governor’s SMART Schools Challenge that focuses on energy efficiency and environmental health in schools.
- Work with Opportunity Link to enhance energy awareness among vulnerable populations and improve community sustainability and resilience.
- Help Yellowstone’s Sustainability Program assess and manage resources by developing reports, projects, and initiatives that reduce energy, water, and waste.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive community sustainability plan at Glacier National Park to engage visitors and locals in fostering a sustainable culture.
- Assist the City of Red Lodge in cutting energy expenses for public buildings and advancing recycling programs aligned with local growth and climate protection policies.
