Job description
Position Overview
The Surveying Helper works under direct supervision assisting skilled tradespersons with various supportive tasks within construction and industrial environments. Responsibilities and required skills adapt based on experience and assigned duties.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct manual labor such as cutting brush, carrying stakes, pins, and marking right-of-way indicators for construction projects.
- Support and learn elevation and grade establishment tasks as directed.
- Accurately install or mark elevations guided by a Surveying Journeyman.
- Help measure distances manually using survey chains and plumb bobs, ensuring chains remain accurate and well-maintained.
- Assist with setup and operation of electronic measuring and sighting equipment as needed.
- Operate and upkeep various surveying tools and instruments.
Qualifications and Experience
- Previous experience as a Surveyor Helper, preferably in powerplant or industrial settings.
- Sound knowledge and skills relevant to the duties of the position.
- Able to comprehend, follow, and relay both oral and written instructions effectively with supervisors.
- Field experience in the related craft discipline.
- Familiarity with safe and efficient use of hand, power, and layout tools.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Must be physically capable of moving about construction/industrial sites involving standing, walking, sitting, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling.
- Ready to work outdoors in changing weather conditions.
- Willingness to work irregular hours including weekends, overtime, and holidays as required.
- Ability to climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolds, mechanical platforms, and other elevated structures, possibly exceeding 200 feet.
- Comfortable operating in confined, cluttered areas with uneven surfaces in noisy and dusty environments.
- Capability to move items weighing up to 50 pounds around job sites.

- Possession of required tools for the role.
- Strict adherence to safety protocols and project guidelines.
- Must successfully pass pre-access drug and alcohol screenings, medical fitness for duty, and background checks.
