Job description
Role Overview
We are looking for dedicated Support Workers to assist people in New Plymouth who have complex behavioral needs and challenging behaviors. Your role involves helping individuals manage intense emotions, ensuring their safety, and encouraging positive behaviors.
As a Support Worker, you will support individuals in gaining independence and learning daily living skills. This includes assisting with tasks like transportation, employment, managing finances, meal preparation, shopping, cleaning, personal care such as showering, and administering medication. The position requires flexibility to work daytime, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts tailored to each individual's abilities.
This role demands physical stamina, resilience, and confidence to manage risks and respond effectively in difficult situations. A positive approach plays a vital part in fostering a supportive environment that enables meaningful growth.
Qualifications and Skills Required
No previous experience in health or disability sectors is required; however, a strong motivation to develop a career as a Support Worker and a positive mindset are essential. Comprehensive training and orientation will be provided to enthusiastic candidates willing to learn.
- Capability to manage challenging behaviors thoughtfully and safely
- Availability for flexible working hours including weekends and overnight sleepover shifts
- Comfort and proficiency in daily use of computers and tablets
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Physical fitness adequate for providing hands-on support
- Possession of a valid Full New Zealand driver’s license
