Role Overview
This is a full-time remote position for a Subsidence Specialist. The role is responsible for overseeing a portfolio of subsidence claims from first notice to final resolution, with an emphasis on speed, fairness, and cost control. The postholder will review technical reports, soil and site investigations, and structural assessments; coordinate with policyholders, insurers, loss adjusters, engineers, and contractors; and agree suitable mitigation, repair, or monitoring approaches. The role also includes checking policy coverage, managing reserves, giving customers clear and simple updates, and keeping accurate information in claims systems. In addition, the specialist will help improve processes by spotting trends, supporting refinements, and working with colleagues to maintain strong service quality and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Handle a portfolio of subsidence claims through the full lifecycle, from initial notification through to closure.
- Review technical documentation, including soil reports, site investigation findings, and structural assessments.
- Communicate and coordinate with policyholders, insurers, loss adjusters, engineers, and contractors.
- Agree appropriate strategies for mitigation, repair, or ongoing monitoring based on the claim circumstances.
- Assess policy coverage, evaluate liability where relevant, and manage claim reserves.
- Negotiate settlements and work toward fair, timely, and economical outcomes.
- Provide clear, jargon-free updates to customers and stakeholders.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records within claims management systems.
- Identify recurring patterns or trends that may improve claims handling practices.
- Support process improvements while ensuring service standards and regulatory expectations are met.
Requirements
- Strong understanding of subsidence, ground movement, building pathology, and property construction, ideally gained in insurance, loss adjusting, or engineering settings.
- Proven experience handling property or subsidence claims end to end, including coverage review, liability assessment, reserving, and settlement negotiation.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to explain technical matters in a simple and customer-friendly way.
- Confidence using digital claims systems, remote working tools, and standard office applications in a technology-led, data-informed environment.
- Strong analytical ability, sound judgement, and attention to detail, with the capacity to prioritise and manage multiple matters independently.
- Professional experience in claims handling, building surveying, structural engineering, or loss adjusting is desirable.
- Professional credentials such as CII, CILA, RICS, or ICE are beneficial.
- Ability to work autonomously in a remote role with reliability, self-motivation, and a strong customer focus.
