About the Role
We are seeking a highly knowledgeable Subject Matter Expert (SME) with over 15 years of experience in aircraft propulsion systems, specifically focusing on aero engines. This leadership role involves providing in-depth technical guidance throughout aerospace projects, including engine design, structural analysis, certification, integration, and maintenance support activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as the chief technical authority for aero engine systems in various phases such as design, development, testing, certification, and operational support.
- Lead the engine SME review processes for requirements and deliverables.
- Evaluate engine parameters including performance, operational reliability, and maintainability.
- Support integration of engines with aircraft platforms and related systems.
- Review and approve technical documents, engineering outputs, and specifications.
- Provide direction on root cause analysis relating to deliverables.
- Conduct trade studies and feasibility analyses for engine modifications and upgrades.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams encompassing airframe, control systems, structural and avionics engineers, and certification specialists.
- Drive adoption of best practices, establish standards, and foster continuous improvements based on lessons learned.
- Mentor and deliver technical training to engineering personnel on aero engine technologies.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Propulsion Engineering, or related discipline.
- At least 15 years of relevant experience in aero engine design, analysis, testing, integration, or certification.
- Background working with propulsion systems for commercial, military aircraft, business jets, helicopters, or UAVs.
- Deep understanding of gas turbine engines and overall aircraft propulsion principles.
Technical Expertise
- Hands-on experience with civil aero engine subsystems (stators and rotors); military aero engines experience is advantageous.
- Expertise in thermal and fluid system engineering, thermodynamics, aerodynamics, structural analysis, rotor dynamics, engine health monitoring, reliability engineering, and failure analysis.
Desired Skills
- Modeling and simulation of engine subsystems.
- Management of engine integration and aircraft interfacing.
- Reliability, maintainability, and safety assessments of engine subsystems.
- Knowledge of FMEA, FTA, RCA, and risk assessment techniques.
- Experience with engine certification and compliance processes.
- Familiarity with digital engineering and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
- Understanding of FAA and EASA airworthiness certifications.
Tools & Software
- Experience using CAD tools such as Catia V5/V6 and Siemens NX.
- Proficiency with analysis tools like Ansys, Abaqus, and Hypermesh.
- Working knowledge of MATLAB/Simulink and PLM software such as Teamcenter and Windchill.
- Programming or data analytics skills, including Python for engine health monitoring.
- Hands-on experience with Generative AI tools.
Industry Standards & Certifications
- Familiarity with FAA and EASA certification requirements.
- Knowledge of ARP4754A, ARP4761, DO-160 standards.
- Experienced with aerospace safety, reliability protocols, and airworthiness regulations.
Industry Experience
- Background in aerospace original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
- Experience with aero engine manufacturing.
- Familiarity with Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) organizations.
- Work with aerospace engineering service providers.
- Participation in defense and military aviation programs.
