Role overview

Jagran New Media is hiring a Sub Editor for its English Lifestyle team in Noida. In this role, you will work closely with the editor to refine, polish, and publish lifestyle news stories and reports. The position calls for sharp editorial judgment, accuracy, and the ability to handle fast-paced deadlines without compromising quality.

What you will do

• Edit, rewrite, and proofread articles and reports to ensure they are clear, correct, grammatically sound, and consistent with house style.
• Assess content with strong editorial judgment and a careful eye for detail.
• Produce concise, objective, and accurate copy even when deadlines are tight.
• Work across different subject areas and manage varied editorial tasks efficiently.
• Translate stories from Hindi into English while preserving meaning and tone.
• Check facts, dates, figures, and other details to maintain accuracy and consistency.
• Apply the publication’s style sheet, brand rules, and desired tone across all content.
• Coordinate with editors and team members to improve overall quality and readability.
• Research and verify information whenever additional fact-checking is required.
• Format content properly, including headings, subheadings, bullet points, and lists.
• Uphold ethical journalism standards, including avoiding plagiarism and respecting copyright.
• Keep a consistent editorial voice across articles and sections.
• Stay informed about current trends, developments, and relevant topics in the lifestyle space.
• Contribute ideas during brainstorming sessions and suggest fresh content angles.
• Manage multiple assignments at once and prioritize work to meet deadlines.
• Perform a final quality check before publication to ensure all edits have been incorporated.

Requirements

• 1 to 3 years of editorial experience in the lifestyle domain.
• A Bachelor’s, postgraduate, or Master’s degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related discipline.
• Excellent written English with strong grammar, spelling, and punctuation skills.
• Solid editing, proofreading, and fact-checking capabilities.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
• Ability to adapt to a tightly defined editorial voice and tone.
• Comfort with editing tools and related software.
• SEO knowledge will be considered an added advantage.
• Familiarity with digital publishing platforms and content management systems is beneficial.
