Studio Assistant

Position Overview

We are recruiting a dependable and skilled Studio Assistant to support a working artist's studio operations and assist with various ongoing projects. This part-time role begins immediately and will continue until October or November, with a possibility to work remotely or at the NYC studio during the winter season. The assistant will collaborate closely with the artist and another assistant at the Mt. Washington studio location.

Key Responsibilities

• Carefully handle, prepare, and organize delicate and finished artworks, especially those on paper.
• Assist in the fabrication and construction of sculptural and mixed-media pieces.
• Support art installation, exhibition preparation, packing, and transportation of artworks.
• Maintain cleanliness, organization, and overall functionality of the studio space.
• Document artwork through photography, perform basic photo editing, and manage file organization.
• Help with archival procedures, storage systems, and preservation of artworks, with archival experience being advantageous.
• Provide general assistance across multiple concurrent studio projects.

Candidate Qualifications

• Experience working within a professional studio or a strong background in fine arts disciplines such as sculpture, printmaking, or installation art.
• Proficient in handling delicate artworks and understanding their preservation needs.
• Preferred familiarity with paper-based artwork handling and archival techniques.
• Ability to assist with physical fabrication tasks related to sculptures and installations.
• Comfortable lifting and transporting heavy materials, artworks, and equipment.
• Photography abilities and familiarity with basic photo editing tools are beneficial.
• Strong attention to detail with capability to follow technical and process-oriented instructions precisely.
• Capability to work effectively both independently and in team settings with minimal supervision.
• Excellent organizational skills and willingness to support a variety of studio requirements.
• Must have reliable transportation and the ability to commute to Mt. Washington, Massachusetts.

About the Artist

Sandy Winters is an established artist based in New York City and Mt. Washington, Massachusetts, with an M.F.A. from Cornell University and a B.S. from the University of New Hampshire. Her work has been exhibited extensively across the US and Europe and featured in museums, galleries, publications, and reviews. Besides painting and drawing, she creates collaborative installations engaging audiences in the creative process and has over thirty years of university-level teaching experience in painting and drawing.
