Job description

Role Overview

The Cleveland Museum of Art is seeking a part-time Studio Assistant to support community-focused arts programming across the Community Arts Center, the Studio Go mobile art van, and signature museum events. This role is centered at the Community Arts Center and contributes to studio-based programs that serve children, families, and adults through open studios, workshops, school programs, outreach activities, and major public events such as Parade the Circle and Chalk Festival.

The position supports the museum’s goal of creating arts experiences connected to the collection for audiences of all ages.

Schedule and Compensation

This is an onsite part-time role. The schedule requires evening and weekend availability, including Friday evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and additional weekday shifts as needed. Compensation is $15.00 per hour for 20 hours per week.

What You’ll Do

  • Help run program activities by guiding participants, offering encouragement, and giving clear creative instruction and individualized feedback to children, families, and adults.
  • Learn the purpose of each community arts program and how it connects to the Community Arts Center and the museum’s collection.
  • Support setup, preparation, and cleanup for studio programs, mobile outreach programs, and community arts signature events.
  • Welcome and interact with visitors in a courteous and approachable manner.
  • Take initiative and respond quickly to changing needs during programs.
  • Keep studio rooms, activity areas, storage spaces, tools, and supplies orderly and ready for use.
  • Record participant counts to support program tracking and audience reach.
  • Help with participant satisfaction surveys during classes when assigned and appropriate.
  • Carry out other related tasks as needed.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • Prior experience in studio art, art education, or public-facing work with school-age children is preferred.
  • University students studying studio art, art history, or art education are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others in a team setting are necessary.
  • Good interpersonal skills and solid organizational ability are expected.
  • Availability for Friday evenings, Saturdays, Sundays, and some weekday hours is required.
