Overview
The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) is Qatar’s first national applied university. UDST is hiring an Academic Advising Specialist to join the Student Central Services Department within the Academic Advising Unit.
Role Summary
In this position, you will report to the Head of Academic Advising and support students through a developmental dual-advising model in partnership with faculty advisors. The role centers on helping students succeed academically by offering structured guidance, individualized planning, and consistent support throughout their studies.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with Academic Learning Services to design and apply personalized student success plans, including support strategies for students who may be at risk.
- Hold regular meetings with advisees to review academic progress, resolve concerns, and update plans when needed.
- Keep current with UDST programs, rules, and procedures so students receive accurate guidance.
- Support students with choosing courses, planning course order, and completing registration.
- Direct students to suitable campus services for academic, personal, and social support.
- Help organize and deliver workshops and training sessions for faculty academic advisors.
- Partner with faculty members, staff, and departments to improve student support services.
- Use EAB Navigate360 to keep student records accurate and up to date.
- Use EAB Navigate360 to manage appointment availability and coordinate advising bookings.
- Support planning and execution of university-wide academic advising events.
- Assist with recruiting and coaching peer academic advisors (PAAs).
- Follow all academic advising policies and operating procedures.
Qualifications
A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is mandatory. A master’s degree or a professional certification is considered an advantage.
The role requires at least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably gained in higher education.
Strong written and spoken fluency in both English and Arabic is required.
Skills and Competencies
The ideal candidate should demonstrate strong attention to detail, dependable work habits, relationship-building ability, a collaborative mindset, and a commitment to service excellence. Technical capability in student success, the student life cycle, service design and implementation, and process design and efficiency is also required.
